| Rockwell Automation Expands Allen-Bradley® POINT I/O Family with ControlNet Network Interface Adapter |
New adapter provides cost-efficient connectivity option for distribution of POINT I/OTM MAYFIELD HEIGHTS, Mar. 3, 2003 To provide users with cost-effective, high-speed communications in distributed I/O applications, Rockwell Automation has added a ControlNet network interface adapter to its Allen-Bradley® POINT I/O product family. The POINT I/O Redundant ControlNet Adapter (1734-ACNR) allows POINT I/O to communicate over the ControlNet network for applications requiring high-speed, deterministic, repeatable data delivery and diagnostic reporting. The ControlNet adapter brings powerful capabilities to users with distributed I/O that need to be integrated into a control system, said Jim Iubelt, POINT I/O product manager, Rockwell Automation. And with advanced functionality such as the ability to support software configurable I/O modules, the ControlNet network adapter reduces spare parts inventory and makes module replacement easier. The POINT I/O family consists of terminal bases with removable terminal strips, 2 and 4-point I/O modules and network interface options all DIN rail-mounted and snapped together to meet the exact needs of an application. With this new network adapter, POINT I/O users can tap into the benefits of an open, digital network, with the ability to directly monitor I/O status and diagnostics with an electronic operator interface. The ControlNet adapter offers flash upgradeable firmware for quick and easy field updates and also supports removal and insertion under power (RIUP) of POINT I/O modules, which can reduce costly downtime. The ControlNet adapter features redundant media ports and supports a high-speed communication protocol with the POINT I/O modules. The ControlNet interface adapter for POINT I/O is available immediately.
