| RTI incorporates IPv6 in its Data Distribution Service middleware | ||

SANTA CLARA, CA March 12, 2007 Real-Time Innovations incorporated Internet Protocol version 6 (IPv6) support into its RTI Data Distribution Service middleware. RTI Data Distribution Service now allows distributed applications to simultaneously support both IPv6 and the current-generation IPv4, easing migration to the newer standard. IPv6 support is required of all U.S. Department of Defense networks and applications starting in 2008, making it essential for engineers to begin adoption of this wide-ranging standard. RTI Data Distribution Service was designed to allow distributed applications to easily support multiple underlying transports. This gives system designers the ability to create highly complex distributed applications that can operate between different networks if required. Each application within a distributed system has access to the same shared data, regardless of the network transport being employed. The ability to support both IPv6 and IPv4 in the same applicationwithout any modification to the source codecan result in tremendous savings in software development time and effort while reducing the risk involved in transitioning to IPv6. One goal of RTI Data Distribution Service is to provide an abstraction layer for system and software engineers so that they can quickly and reliably build complex distributed applications, explained Supreet Oberoi, vice president of Engineering for RTI. This allows engineers to take advantage of different networking technologies without having to understand the network transport and associated code. IPv6 provides for a quantum leap in the number of unique addresses available for devices connecting to the Internet, eliminating the need for leases and other temporary address schemes. IPv6 is essential if we are to fully realize the potential of the Internet in providing intelligent connectivity to a wide variety of computers and electronic devices, continued Oberoi. Overall adoption of IPv6 will be gradual, requiring it to coexist alongside the existing IPv4 for a number of years. Using a middleware solution such as RTI Data Distribution Service provides the ability for distributed applications to operate between different networks and enable the transition from IPv4 to IPv6. RTI Data Distribution Service includes Quality-of-Service (QoS) management features that leverage capabilities inherent in the IPv6 network transport. For example, the transport-priority QoS feature of RTI Data Distribution Service allows applications to prioritize data flows using the IPv6 traffic class header. This allows system designers to harness their network infrastructures to enable multiple streams of prioritized data to be delivered in a timely fashion. About RTI Data Distribution Service RTI Data Distribution Service (formerly NDDS) is high-performance messaging middleware for the development and integration of applications that require low latency, high throughput, high scalability, deterministic responses and minimal consumption of network, processor and memory resources. RTI Data Distribution Service is an open-architecture platform that complies with the Object Management Groups (OMGs) Data Distribution Service (DDS) for Real-Time Systems standard. Price & Availability RTI Data Distribution Service with IPv6 is available today. A complete development package for $84,600 USD includes a comprehensive Architecture Study from an RTI expert who will provide written design recommendations based on an evaluation of application requirements, plus two days of customer-specific training, one week of follow-up consulting, and one year of maintenance and support. About RTI Real-Time Innovations (RTI) helps customers successfully develop and integrate the worlds most demanding real-time applications. By coupling RTIs deep expertise in real-time communications with the highest-performance messaging middleware, RTI takes the risk out of distributed application development and system integration. The companys software and services have been leveraged in a broad range of industries including defense, intelligence, simulation, industrial control, transportation, finance and communications. Founded in 1991, RTI is privately held and headquartered in Santa Clara, CA. |
