SCADAware Provides Control and SCADA Systems to Military for Deployable Power Plants

Bloomington, IL – SCADAware was awarded a contract to supply controls and SCADA systems for deployable power plants to be used by the U.S. Air Force and the U.S. Army. These systems have been deployed to many overseas camps including Baghdad, Oman, Qatar and Afghanistan.

Each power plant consists of a series of Power Units (PUs). PUs are trailers with two Caterpillar Diesel generator sets and a Primary Distribution Controller (PDC). Within each PDC, among other power-related devices, is a Sixnet controller, I/O and industrial Ethernet switch. The Sixnet equipment provides system-level control and allows for communication via Modbus/TCP from one PU to another, and from all PUs in the plant to the Operator Remote Terminal (ORT).

The ORT is a Panasonic Toughbook running a custom application built with Iconics Genesis32 and provides power Plant Control, Monitoring and Data-Acquisition from a location remote to the physical plant.

A power plant can include one, two, three, or four PUs. Each PU is rated at 920KW. A four-unit Power Plant can deliver up to 3680KW at 4160VAC.

SCADAware, Inc. is a System Integrator comprised of a uniquely innovative and talented team of engineers and programmers who specialize in the design and implementation of open-architecture control systems and PC-based Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems for heavy industry, investor-owned utilities, municipal water/wastewater utilities and government agencies. For nearly 10 years, the SCADAware team has been providing turnkey automation solutions for its clients.
