Schneider Electric introduces Magelis STO and STU HMIs
April 5, 2010 — Schneider Electric introduces Magelis STO and Magelis STU small panel HMIs.

The Magelis STO HMI is one of the smallest touch screen operator panel on the market. With a 3.4” widescreen, it offers a resolution of 200x80 pixels and two versions of a monochrome screen. The screens are either green/orange/red backlight or white/pink/red backlight, which are designed to be visible to the operator at a distance. Superb graphics gives the operator an attractive and improved visualization of the application. The STO HMI also features serial, mini-USB and USB type A ports. Thanks to its low-consumption idle mode, the STO will contribute to the energy efficiency of an application.

The Magelis STU has the capability to send email and offers access via the Internet with embedded Web pages. The STU offers serial port and Ethernet connectivity and a 3.5” full-color graphical touch screen terminal with QVGA and TFT 65,536 colors. In addition, the STU offers patented 22mm pushbutton hole mounting, greatly reducing installation time.

The Magelis STO and STU HMIs are certified for IP 65, NEMA 4X, ATEX/UL1604, UL508, RoHS, and marine bridge & deck.

Both the STO and STU small panel HMIs are configured with Vijeo Designer HMI programming software. The free edition of the software offers fully functional access to market-leading features for the STU/STO without additional cost. With the introduction of the new generation of small panel HMIs, Vijeo Designer software becomes the only software in the market to fully configure a complete and comprehensive range of Magelis HMIs from affordable, small size, to an advanced industrial PC-based HMI running the latest Core Duo CPU and redundancy features.

The Vijeo Designer software’s open architecture adapts to all Magelis HMI platforms and offers web, multimedia and data exchange functions as well as the ability to view and record video in real time. Simple to use and manage, Vijeo Designer software handles your HMI applications in complete security via a simple internet navigator using Ethernet architecture, and provides PC simulation, multiwindow programming, and a library of more than 4,000 customizable images. In addition, this software contains all of the drivers required for communication to all major vendors’ PLCs and drives, allowing full openness and integration to most existing automation systems.

HMI products can be used to manage energy in various ways. Efficiencies will be gained with materials, time, floor space, personnel and energy usage, and because operators have access to meaningful data they have the ability to make proper adjustments to the process. HMIs and Industrial PCs with Vijeo Designer software installed collect critical data that allows users to make decisions about their machines and processes to achieve optimal performance and effectively manage energy.
