Schneider Electric introduces open operator interfaces
PALATINE, Ill. - October 6, 2006 - Schneider Electric introduces the latest generation of flexible Telemecanique brand Magelis HMI products, including the Magelis Smart iPC, Magelis Compact iPC and Magelis XBT-GT graphical touchscreen terminals. The updated Smart and Compact iPCs, now available in 12- and 15-inch sizes, provide effortless installation and implementation of HMI applications. The user-friendly XBT-GT graphical touchscreen terminals are compact and come in four new sizes - 7.4, 10.4, 12.1 and 15 inches - in addition to the original 3.8- and 5.7-inch sizes - all in easy-to-install designs.

“The Magelis Smart and Compact iPCs and Magelis XBT-GT graphical touchscreen terminals are designed to provide superior openness for users across a variety of applications,” said Donna Smalls, product manager, Schneider Electric North America. “Each has a wide variety of communication solutions. The iPCs include a combination of serial ports, USB ports, Ethernet ports and Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI)/Personal Computer Memory Card International Association (PCMCIA)extension slots, while the touch screens can be accessed through USB, Ethernet ports and serial ports.”

When used with the latest Vijeo Designer V4.4 configuration software, Magelis XBT-GT terminals, Smart and Compact iPCs guarantee optimum flexibility, hardware range and operating system choice all with a single software package enabling control of all operator dialog applications.

Magelis Smart and Compact iPCs
The Magelis Compact iPC offers solutions for the simplest to the most complex machines. It’s open to HMI and supervision applications and to numerous automation architectures. Its communication is adapted to the machine environment with two embedded TCP/IP Ethernet connections. The iPC also offers optional wireless connections, a wide viewing angle and PCI/PCMCIA extension slot capability.

The Magelis Smart iPC is simple to use and is the ideal compromise between an industrial PC and an operator terminal. The Microsoft Windows XP operating system is embedded in the Smart iPC and customers benefit from access to familiar Microsoft programs like Internet Explorer , Outlook Express, Excel and Word. Access to the Internet and intranet provides total openness locally or remotely for simplified operation, diagnostics and maintenance. The architecture development of the Magelis Smart iPC is simplified by the availability of two 10/100 Mbps Ethernet ports, two extension card slots and a compact flash card for data storage, offering easy integration to other automation products. As an operator terminal, the Smart iPC is open to client SCADA applications, and with a FactoryCast HMI embedded Web server, the iPC can remotely monitor diagnostics.

Magelis XBT-GT Graphical Touchscreen Terminals
The Magelis XBT-GT graphical touchscreen terminals support video and have increased processing capacity. The terminal’s 64-bit processor allows for ultra-fast response time and task multiplication. The XBT-GT touch screen can be equipped with up to 1GB of memory to collect more data, process more complex applications and increase embedded languages. With the latest version of Vijeo Designer software and the multimedia ports integrated on some of the XBT-GT models, application sound and images are available with analog camera connection, MPEG-4 format encoding/decoding with recording on demand, and simultaneous recorded sequence/real-time image viewing also are available.

Dimensions of the new XBT-GT touchscreen terminals are almost identical to existing Magelis XBT-G ranges, ensuring trouble-free substitution and upward compatibility. Their sensitive touchpad and multiwindow capability with pop-up management facilitate dialog operations.
