| Scientific Technologies Electrically Coded Interlock Package Provides a Complete Category 4 System |
FREMONT, CA Scientific Technologies, Inc. (STI) introduces the EC Series Electrically Coded Interlock Switch and Control Unit. The EC Series consists of a uniquely coded actuator, a read head (switch) and a control unit capable of monitoring up to four switches for applications with up to four guard doors. Guarding applications with more than four guard doors can be achieved by combining two or more control units in series. Each actuator has a uniquely coded element that cannot be reprogrammed, making the actuators secure against manipulation. The EC Series control unit provides EDM (External Device Monitoring, also called MPCE Monitoring) and may be operated in manual or automatic start mode, which allows the control unit to function as a safety monitoring relay. Each switch is available in cable lengths up to 25 meters or with an integral connector to accommodate a variety of application requirements. Additionally, misalignment tolerance of approximately a half-inch allows application on machine doors with a high level of vibration or alignment issues, and the control units 6 A/24 VDC switching capability of the control unit allows connection directly to power contactors. The system works by passing an electromagnetic field from the switch to the actuator, which processes the signal and sends it back to the switch. It is then read by the control unit, which determines if it matches preprogrammed codes. A teach-in operation teaches the control unit the actuators codes. No additional equipment is required to perform the teach-in operation, and there is no limit to the number of teach-in operations that may be performed. With headquarters in the heart of Silicon Valley, STI was founded over 30 years ago and employs more than 340 people. STI has been selected twice by Forbes and three times by Business Week as one of the worlds best small companies. STIs safety products are used to protect workers around machinery, automated equipment and industrial robots.
