OMRON Scientific Technologies, Inc. - STI News
| Scientific Technologies, Inc. Introduces RM-5 Resource Module for Connect up to Three Sets of Safety Light Curtains |
FREMONT, CA Scientific Technologies, Inc. introduces the RM-5 Resource Module. The RM-5 is a microprocessor-controlled, multifunction relay that allows up to three light curtains to be connected in sequence. The RM-5 provides 2 NO and 1 NC force-guided safety contacts. Muting for conveyor applications and Presence Sensing Device Initiation (PSDI) are also a function of this resource module. This multi-function resource module is CE approved and UL listed to satisfy global application requirements. PSDI is used to initiate the cycle of a machine by counting the number of breaks, or obstructions, of a presence sensing device (light curtain). Operating a machine in PSDI mode allows for increased productivity because employees no longer need to make "non-value added" movements to cycle machines. There is also an ergonomic advantage; by eliminating the need to press the cycle start switch(es), repetitive motion injuries caused by reaching for and pressing start switches is removed from the process. With headquarters in the heart of Silicon Valley, STI was founded over 30 years ago and employs more than 350 people. STI has been selected twice by Forbes and three times by Business Week as one of the worlds best small companies. STIs safety products are used to protect workers around machinery, automated equipment and industrial robots.
