Siemens introduces SITRANS P500 pressure transmitter

August 15, 2011 – Siemens Industry Process Instrumentation & Analytics Business Unit (PIABU) introduced the SITRANS P500 pressure transmitter. Combining a response time of 88ms and an accuracy of 0.03%, the Sitrans P500 quickly and precisely responds to process changes.

With a reference accuracy of 0.03% and a turndown of 200:1, working close-coupled in rugged conditions with maximum process temperatures of 125°C (257°F) is not a problem for the P500. Temperature compensation and a separate static pressure sensor minimize temperature and pressure errors.

Using the P500 reduces the need to stock different transmitters, as the product features long-term stability of 0.05% over five years (0.08% over ten years). With dimensions of (3.4”w x 7.4”h x 5.5”d), the P500 transmitter is compact in design and low in weight (7.3 lbs.). The P500 is well-suited for high demand applications of the chemical, petrochemical, oil and gas and power industries.

With the new Local User Interface (LUI), users can configure the device quickly and simply at the transmitter. The P500 features user-friendly functions, including local configuration utilizing the full-text-enabled and multilingual backlit display, including graphical representation of process variables using bar graphs, curves and trend diagrams. The transmitter can also be operated and configured using standard HART tools with the help of a fast start wizard.

“Our customers are using these products in more complex applications in process industries, thus requiring the development of the SITRANS P500, which features extended functionality and increased accuracy to set a new standard in measuring precision,” says Michael Cushing, product marketing manager for Siemens Industry PIABU.

Siemens Process Instrumentation and Analytics business segment includes measurement and control products including level, pressure, temperature and flow transmitters, loop controllers, valve instrumentation, regulators and relays, process protection instruments, weigh feeders, belt scales, analytical system integration, gas chromatography, continuous gas analyzers, FLK gas sampling probes and laser analytics. These products can be found supporting a host of industries like water, oil and gas, chemical, pharmaceutical, food and beverage, glass, cement, power and metals.
