Simply Modbus' troubleshooting tool now logs transmission data

December 21, 2006 - Simply Modbus version 6.0 now makes solving modbus problems easier than ever. This one-window test tool requires little to no training so technicians and system integrators can use their time more effectively. A simple explanation on how modbus works on their website is a handy reference that includes examples of the various commands and replies.

The test tool not only shows the bytes being sent and recieved, but version 6.0 now logs this data with time stamps and with the click of a button saves the log to a text file for future reference. When the results don't appear correctly, a few clicks to change settings like byte orders or data types quickly displays the correct results. The free demonstration version no longer expires after 30 days and provides full functionality indefinitely with a registration request window that appears periodically.

The software, which functions as a MODBUS RTU or MODBUS ASCII master, can be used on any Windows PC with a built in or USB serial port. It easily connects to the vast range of process instrumentation with a modbus port. It can connect to devices directly or remotely over a radio system. It supports mixed data types within the same message and keeps track of communication statistics.

They also offer a new Simply Modbus Slave emulator that also supports both MODBUS RTU and ASCII, as well as spreadsheets that provide the IEEE floating point and CRC calculations.

Maintenance technicians and MODBUS device manufacturers will surely benefit from using these tools to find problems and verify their devices are working properly.
