SMA Introduces Embedded Linux for CompactMAX CPU7.2
Niestetal - Embedded applications require an operating system that is both solid and dependable, as well as storage space efficient. Linux offers a cost-efficient option with special features: Due to the open code, Linux systems can be modified to meet individual needs. Now available from SMA, a custom Embedded Linux version for the Pentium M CPU7.2.

SMA’s Embedded Linux is based on a standard Vanilla Kernel, version 2.6.11. The libraries come from the current Slackware Linux version 10.1. SMA provides this operating system already installed on the CompactFlash and completely configured for the special system of the CPU7.2 including all periphery cards. This basic version with drivers for the CCAN4 and CSER8 requires only 24 MByte storage space on the CompactFlash card as well as 19 MByte RAM while in operation (without application software).

Linux is compatible with current hardware components. SMA Embedded Linux supports Firewire and USB ports in Hot Plug’n Play mode. Full Secure-Shell-Support (SSH) provides reliability during remote computer use as well as during data transfer. In short, SMA’s Embedded Linux is a perfect solution for applications without a graphic user-interface – it provides state-of-the-art software technology without licence charges and at the same time offers a maximum of modification capabilities.
