Softing adds PROFINET IO stacks for Siemens ERTEC
NEWBURYPORT, MA - January 6, 2008 - Softing has announced the availability of its portable PROFINET IO stacks for Siemens’ ERTEC 200/400 Series. Softing’s protocol stack implementation is based on the latest PROFINET IO specification and is available as “Controller” and “Supervisor.” The protocol software supports Conformance Class A and B.

The PROFINET IO protocol software includes the following three main components:
  • Access Kit: The Access Kit is a powerful, yet flexible abstraction layer between the controller application and the PROFINET IO stack.
  • Porting Layer: The Porting Layer handles memory allocation, task and thread management, and access to the Ethernet peripheral. The Porting Layer is the only software component that must be ported to the target hardware.
  • Protocol Software: The Protocol Software is an independent component representing the actual implementation of all protocol services. This software core is embedded between the Access Kit and the Porting Layer. Typically, it is not necessary to port the protocol software to the target hardware. Softing's communications experts are continually maintaining, enhancing, and optimizing the Protocol Software to ensure PROFINET IO conformity.

    The protocol software is complemented by an extensive user manual that includes the complete application interface documentation and step-by-step instructions on how to port the software. This manual is available on request for your convenience.
  • Portability: As of today, the software has been successfully ported to the following CPU types: Intel x86, ARM 7/9, Motorola Power PC, and others...
  • Operating Systems: As of today, the software supports the following operating systems: Win32, VxWorks, Linux, eCos, netOS, and others...
