MOXA adds Internet IPv6 to NPort 6000 server
August 18, 2008 — A number of governments now require that all of their new networking equipment support IPv6. The U.S. government, for example, has specified that the network backbones of all federal agencies must be able to deploy IPv6 by the end of 2008, and has already purchased a 16-block (281 trillion) of network addresses to start the deployment. China has also included IPv6 implementation into their 5-year plan.

The new firmware for the NPort 6000 series of secure terminal servers, which will be released in the near future, supports the complete IPv6 standard.

IPv6, which stands for Internet Protocol version 6, uses 128-bit IP addresses. Compare this with the first version (IPv4), which uses 32-bit IP addresses. This change represents a huge increase in the number of available IP addresses.

MOXA is a leading manufacturer of device networking products.
