March 4, 2010 - Open Systems International, Inc. (OSI) has been selected by the Trinidad & Tobago Electricity Commission (T&TEC) to supply a comprehensive new Distribution SCADA system intended to secure and modernize the national distribution grid of Trinidad & Tobago. Originally established in 1946, T&TEC is currently the sole distributor of electricity for Trinidad and Tobago; employing roughly 3,000 citizens and serving approximately 407,092 domestic, commercial, industrial and street lighting customers throughout 5 regional divisions. T&TEC is primarily a transmission and distribution company; however, it also possesses a 51% equity interest in the largest generation company in the country. Seeking a significant improvement in grid-wide distribution integrity, T&TEC has selected OSIs state-of-the-art monarch (Multi-platform Open Network ARCHitecture) technology to be implemented as a comprehensive new Distribution SCADA platform, expected to significantly improve the security, reliability and functionality of Trinidad and Tobagos national power distribution operations, facilitating optimal industrial and commercial productivity as well as overall economic growth throughout the island nation. The proposed new system for T&TEC is based on OSIs monarch distributed open network architecture, featuring OSIs advanced Microsoft .NET based Graphical User Interface (GUI) and including OSIs Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA); Remote Console GUI; Calculations; Real-time and Historical Trending; Communications Front-end Processor; Inter-control Center Communications Protocol; Open Database Connectivity; Historical Information System; Historical Recording System and Data Archiving products, as well as interfaces using MultiSpeak and SNMP protocols. T&TEC has entered into a contract with OSI to supply a SCADA system that will modernize our Distribution System and Operations. The company believes that this venture will significantly improve the efficiency of its distribution operations and hence, ultimately, improve the standard of living for the citizens of our twin island republic. OSI has been chosen because of its quality product and proven track record. The company eagerly awaits the implementation of the Distribution SCADA system and becoming one of the many satisfied OSI customers, said Courtenay Mark, Assistant General Manager Engineering of T&TEC OSI welcomes T&TEC to our family of Caribbean customers. Trinidad and Tobago has a thriving national industry that very much depends on the cost effective and reliable distribution of electrical power from T&TEC. At OSI we believe that our innovative Grid Management technology can greatly benefit growing utilities such as T&TEC. We look forward to a successful project and long term partnership with T&TEC, said Bahman Hoveida, President and CEO of OSI. OSI provides open, state-of-the-art and high-performance automation solutions to utilities worldwide. These solutions include Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems, Network Management Systems (NMS), Energy Management Systems (EMS), Distribution Management Systems (DMS) and Generation Management Systems (GMS), as well as individual software and hardware products and SmartGrid solutions for utility operations.
