Westermo introduces ED-200 and ED-210 Ethernet routers
May 30, 2007 - Westermo Data Communications has released a new range of industrial Ethernet routers with integrated 4-port switches. As PPP routers they employ dial-in or dial-out, and are used to link several local Ethernet networks or to gain access to a remote Ethernet network. They provide the best levels of security and harsh environment compliance making them the ideal solution for such demanding applications as traffic signalling, water treatment, aerospace, petrochemical and mining, etc

ED-200 and ED-210 routers gather the functions of a switch and a packet filter for short or long distance network interconnections. The ED-200 has a standard serial port RS-232 or RS-422. It thus offers a wide range of communication possibilities when using standard Westermo PSTN, ISDN, GSM or radio modems. The ED-210 has an integrated V.34 PTSN modem equipped with transient protection on the line side and a “watch-dog” that monitors and automatically resets the modem in the event of a fault.

To guarantee a high level of security, both ED-200 and ED-210 provide multiple-user identification or call-back security and passwords along with a simple IP level firewall.

The new routers benefit from Westermo’s decades of experience in harsh environment compliance. They have galvanic isolation and enhanced surge/transient protection on all ports, and an extended working temperature range of –25°C up to +70°C. This enables the devices to be used in projects where a high degree of reliability is required.

Connection of the ED-200 with an external Westermo modem is totally transparent so no additional software is necessary. Configuration of both of the routers is simple - based on other solutions from Westermo. All other settings use Windows-based programming or the integrated web tool. Communications statistics are easily available everywhere in the network, using a web tool.
