Research Triangle Park, NC - May 31, 2007 - "All Things Industrial Wireless - Technologies, Standards, Applications, Implications," a three-hour tutorial, is being presented by the Wireless Industrial Networking Alliance (WINA) and ISA, 22 July 2007 in Richmond, British Columbia, Canada. The tutorial precedes a two-day program, "Wireless Solutions for Manufacturing Automation: Insights for Technology and Business Success," sponsored by ISA and WINA, to provide enterprise management and senior technical personnel with business insights into the current state of wireless technologies for manufacturing and control systems. Advancements in wireless systems' performance, coupled with industry-wide acceptance of wireless devices, have led to systems being deployed in ever-increasing numbers in ever-more-difficult locations and facilities. Industrial wireless is a catch-all phrase that encompasses system elements that cross the boundaries of IT, process control, HR, security/safety, and numerous other business units within a typical industrial facility. The suite of applications being supported by these devices and systems also crosses multiple business units within a single plant. The Wireless Industrial Networking Alliance (WINA) works to provide all users with coherent, non-marketing-based assessments of current and future trends in the various flavors of industrial wireless technologies and product offerings. ISA, through its ISA-SP100 standards committee, is working to develop a family of universal industrial wireless standards. The tutorial, presented by Wayne Manges, DOE Industrial Wireless Program Manager, Oak Ridge National Laboratories and Chair of the ISA-SP100 standards committee, will provide an accurate, current and unbiased assessment of "All Things Industrial Wireless," past, present, and near-term future.
