Pepperl+Fuchs introduces WirelessHART components
September 8, 2009 - Pepperl+Fuchs introduces three WirelessHART components. The WirelessHART Gateway acts as the interface between the wired structure and wireless network. The WirelessHART Adaptor connects to any existing HART device that supports the HART 5 or HART 6 specification, enabling it to become a WirelessHART device. The WirelessHART Temperature Converter delivers local temperature measurements without the need for an additional enclosure.

The central component is the WirelessHART Gateway, which contains the network management and uses it to organize and control the wireless network and connect this to a control, or SCADA system, via a field bus. The signals of the field devices are received and passed on via the appropriate bus protocol in the field bus. The WirelessHART Gateway can be installed in Zone 1 areas, and can serve up to 250 WirelessHART field devices.

The WirelessHART Adaptor operates at the other end of the communication path, and serves to upgrade conventional HART devices to WirelessHART. These adaptors mount directly into the cable gland of the existing field device, and are available in various models to suit specific application needs. They are easily configured via a HART modem, feature a fully rotatable intrinsically safe antenna, and deliver battery life up to five years.

The WirelessHART Temperature Converter provides local temperature measurements. It is configured via a HART modem and features an integrated, intrinsically safe antenna. The battery provides up to five years of operation, and can be replaced within Zone 1 installations.
