Woodhead Unveils New ODVA-Compliant Direct-Link™ PCI Network Interface Card, Ideal for Controlling EtherNet/IP™ I/O Devices

November, 2005, Northbrook, IL, USA. Woodhead Industries, Inc. (NASDAQ:WDHD), a world leader in the design and manufacture of industrial communication products for the global automation market, announces the release of a new Direct-Link™ 3.3V/5V PCI Network Interface Card.

The Direct-Link 3.3V/5V PCI Network Interface Card (part number DRL-EIO-PCU) is now EtherNet/IP™ Conformance-tested in compliance with ODVA* specifications. The first “intelligent Ethernet PCI interface card” on the market, it is designed to provide high-speed communication, connecting a PCI bus computer to an EtherNet/IP industrial network as a scanner or adapter device. This high-performance interface card has already been adopted by robotic manufacturers for control applications such as automotive, pet packaging, conveyor, etc.

Typical uses include:
  • Real-time computer control (IO implicit and explicit messaging);
  • Supervisory and HMI for operator interface;
  • Bridging disparate networks and allowing the exchange of information between networks (EtherNet/IP to Serial, Ethernet TCP and various fieldbuses);
  • Enabling the transmission of plant-floor data back to office environments.

    The Direct-Link PCI network interface card is compatible with Windows® 32-bit environments as well as real-time operating systems (VxWorks®, QNX®, Linux®, etc). The card is packaged with software tools (configuration, diagnostic, development libraries, and data servers) for an easy and quick installation into your industrial architecture. Another great feature is its compatibility with EtherNet/IP devices that use modular EDS (like Rockwell POINT I/O™ and Flex™ I/O). The interface card also supports DHCP, BOOTP, and DNS Ethernet Services.

    Woodhead's automation products include intelligent connectors, gateways, NICs and software for industrial networks. Designed for performance and reliability, Woodhead’s automation solutions are modular, scalable, easy to use, and quick to implement.
