| Yokogawa Releases Plant Resource Manager 2.05 |
Plant Resource Manager (PRM) is Yokogawas value-added asset management software that integrates and manages maintenance information from field instruments, monitors online conditions, and records historical data. PRM enables users to remotely access devices that feature field communication capability, such as FOUNDATION Fieldbus and HART-enabled devices, as well as to perform centralized management of the parameters of those devices. These functions provide efficient management and maintenance of field devices and computerization of maintenance data that streamlines maintenance operations and achieves cost savings. Information such as the names of flow meters, valves, and other field instruments, parameter settings, inspection records, and instruction manuals are stored in a database, which the operator can easily access as necessary. Version 2.04 released July 2003 added the features of: (1) Selected Alarm Collection Function This function selectively collects alarms/events from the historical message file of CS 1000/CS 3000 HIS, and automatically stores them in the PRM database. It achieves management of user-defined alarms/events in addition to the field device alarms. (2) Calibration Data Management Function This function records calibration data and calibration schedules of the devices regardless of the presence of communication capability. It supports documenting and printing of the calibration instructions and results. With the Documenting Calibrator Interface users can upload field gathered data to the PRM database facilitating data input. (3) Multi-server Switchover This function enables a PRM client to switch its connection to multiple PRM servers dynamically. At large-scale or dispersed plants, multiple PRM servers are used corresponding to multiple CENTUM projects. By using this multi-server function, a PRM client achieves centralized management ability. (4) HART Multiplexer Support Supports 3rd party HART multiplexors from MTL (MTL4840) and ELCON (Mux 2700). (5) Support for Windows XP and Oracle9i (9.2.0) installations The current 2.05 release added: (1) PRM Advanced Diagnosis (Option) An optional package that provides an environment to periodically execute diagnosis of field devices. (2) Device Template New Device Template bundles default settings of each field device type. It is effective when registering multiple devices of the same type. It drastically saves time and effort spent on populating the device database. (3) Windows 2000 Terminal Service Adaptable Release 2.05 provides for remote access utilizing theTerminal Services of the Windows 2000/2003 Server. By using Yokogawas ETS application portal PRM client screens can be viewed using just Internet Explorer. (4) STARDOM Interface The interface to Yokogawas Network Control System, STARDOM, can be connected to PRM. (5) Time Synchronization for V net PRM is time synchronized with the time master of the control highway. The demand for lower total cost of ownership for measurement, automation, and information systems as well as providing optimum operation has driven the development of enhancements to PRM. Current dependence on large maintenance systems has been costly, and the introduction of automatic maintenance can significantly reduce these costs. Utilizing the interactivity of Foundation Fieldbus and/or HART, instruments can now be monitored online and communicated to other entities in the enterprise. The self-diagnostic functions of field devices provide for prediction of malfunctions which reduce costs by allowing predictive maintenance instead of preventive maintenance. PRMs interface to Computerized Management Maintenance Systems (CMMS) such as Maximo provides customers with a major advantage towards their plant device maintenance needs. PRM is one of the focuses of Yokogawas development efforts and will be continually upgraded to meet the continuing demands of the marketplace, notes Bruce Jensen, Manager of Systems Marketing and Sales Support. The current enhancements allow our customers to achieve more from their automation systems by supporting increased efficiency in facilities management. *HART is a registered trademark of the HART Communication Foundation, Fieldbus is a register trademark of the Fieldbus Foundation, Maximo is a trademark of MRO About Yokogawa Corporation of America Yokogawa Corporation of America is the North American unit of $3 billion Yokogawa Electric Corporation, a global leader in the manufacture and supply of instrumentation, process control, and automation solutions.
