ZIF Connectors From ITT Increase Reliability, Decrease Crosstalk

Santa Ana, Calif. – March 28, 2006 – ITT announces the new Cannon DLP series of Zero Insertion Force (ZIF) connectors, which provide greater contact reliability and reduced signal crosstalk. With a minimum rated life of 10,000 mate/unmate cycles and no loss in performance, DLP series connectors can be mated/unmated in less than two seconds. More, because the contact in the receptacle (female) connector mates directly to the PCB on the plug half, signal paths are minimized and crosstalk kept to a minimum.

The DLP series connectors use 34-way high-density contact modules for flexibility in various applications in medical and industrial equipment. A quarter turn of the knob shaft mates all the contacts at once using a simple cam and bearing mechanism. Mating torque is 2N.m, and shock and vibration performance is to MIL-STD-202F.

The connectors are available in 136, 204, 272, and 408 configurations. Rated current is 0.5A and contact resistance is 30mÙ maximum. Metal shells and grounding springs add significant levels of EMI/RFI protection.

The DLP ZIF connectors will suit various applications including ultrasound diagnostic instruments and semiconductor manufacturing equipment.

Prices range from approximately $0.30/IO depending on volumes and the configuration, with lead times dependent on the specifics of the design and configuration.
