Come see AutomationDirect at National Manufacturing Week in Chicago

AutomationDirect is 10 years old this year, and we’d like you to come help us celebrate!

We’re having a party at National Manufacturing Week, Feb. 23-26, 2004, at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois, to thank everyone who helped us achieve this milestone. We invite you to drop by Booth 5611 and meet some of our team members, including company president Tim Hohmann, who have worked to give you outstanding service through the years. Join us for technical demonstrations, and see displays and literature for new products, including Fuji Electric motor controls, Marathon MicroMax motors, relays, signal conditioners, new networking modules for our DL05 and DL06 PLC lines, and more. We’ll also be presenting product overviews in our seminar area throughout the week. And the best part – free food! Stop at the Hospitality Desk for A.M. wake-up coffee and brownies, and P.M. popcorn and a refreshing glass of water. Remember, Booth 5611 – see you there!

eBay Buzz

What's all the buzz about eBay? I'll have to admit that I've never personally tried selling or buying anything on eBay. I know, I know...for someone who lives and breathes on the web, I should have at least tried it.  But as I'm sure is the case with many of you, I know a lot of people that have used and are even addicted to eBay. If they need to buy something, they first search for it on eBay. If they need to sell something, they try to sell it on eBay. I recently saw a piece on the news about people who are making a living by buying and selling products on eBay. Selling on eBay is even the topic of recent spam messages promoting eBay coaching videos, tutorials and software. So what's all the buzz?  You tell me...answer our new poll question below and share your own eBay thoughts and/or experiences with me and other Automationtechies.com visitors.

Want to learn more?  On February 23 -25 at NMW in Chicago, eBay is conducting a number of free seminars on how to buy and sell industrial equipment on eBay. The eBay University seminars are being held at 11:00am -12:00pm and 3:00pm - 4:00pm all three days in room S503B of McCormick Convention Center. Taught by eBay experts, these free seminars will include general training about how to buy and sell industrial equipment for your business on eBay. For sellers, the classes will provide insight into using eBay as a complementary channel to reach a variety of new customers. Buyers will learn how to save money on industrial equipment and supplies from eBay's more than 170,000 business-related listings.  More information on eBay Seminars

As I've mentioned in past issues of this e-news, eBay has Industrial Automation & Control categories within their Business and Industrial category. As an eBay affiliate, we've converted our classified pages to give you direct links to specific automation and control auction sub-categories.  eBay listings can be found by using the links at the bottom of the gray navigation bar on the left-hand side of any site page.  View e-Bay Listings

Please answer our new poll question (also on the Automationtechies.com home page) and share your thoughts and/or experiences about buying and selling products on eBay. Here's the question for you: (after you click submit, you will be directed to our home page where you can see the responses so far, scroll down the page to the lower right)

Tecnomatix Retraction

I've been asked to include this message regarding a recent press release that was published on Automationtechies.com.  On January 23rd, an unapproved press release announcing news regarding Tecnomatix and HP was mistakenly distributed to several media contacts by the company's public relations agency. This announcement was never made by either company. We regret any inconvenience this may have caused. For more information on Tecnomatix / HP partnerships, please visit http://www.tecnomatix.com/showpage.asp?page=579, or contact:

OPC Tunneling Eliminates Setup Headaches

From the shop floor to the top floor, OPC is the preferred communication standard for sharing process control data at all levels of the enterprise.  But as OPC pours into mainstream acceptance, integrators are finding configurations where OPC can be a hindrance to the panacea of plug-and-play application interconnectivity.  The most common situation occurs when applications on different Windows domains must communicate with each other.  Still, other designs call for the use of low-bandwidth or unreliable networks.  It is in these setups that OPC can make use of new “tunneling” technology, which eliminates the biggest OPC headache for integrators: setting up DCOM.
