Introductory Comments
Our guest article this week,
Automation Systems Integration - the realm of specialists, is written by
Jim Pinto. Jim's article is very timely because later this
week the Control and Information Systems Integrators Association
(CSIA) is holding their annual conference in Palm Desert, CA.
In the article, Jim offers analysis of system integration
companies and suggests how companies can grow their businesses
by expanding geographical coverage and industry
expertise. Jim also discusses how major automation
suppliers have made a "big mistake" by expanded into the systems
integration business. At the CSIA conference, Jim will be
presenting on these same topics. It will be interesting to
see how some of the well-represented automation suppliers
(at the conference) respond to his criticism. You can check out
Jim's article below in the Featured Article section. Oh, if your company is a systems integrator, be sure to
request a listing in our directory. Companies looking
for a systems integrator can search by various criteria from our
Systems Integrators page.
We added a new training
item to our site again this week...an on demand web video on
Industrial Data Acquisition Solutions offered by National
Instruments. National instruments has also
published a couple of white papers discussing the use of their
Digital I/O and Counter/Timer Devices in industrial
applications. Please use the following link to check out
these two informative papers:
http://www.automation.com/sitepages/pid1555.php.
And, as usual, don't forget to
review the
News and Job Postings added to our site in the last week.
On to the good stuff...Enjoy the rest of this e-news!

Yahooed
Again
Well, I've been "Yahooed" once again. Last week, I asked
for your input on electronic card decks. It seems that
subscribers with Yahoo (and maybe other free) e-mail accounts
were unable to respond to my in-message poll question because
Yahoo fails to preserve the integrity of various HTML links and
code in e-mail messages. If you are a Yahoo (or other free
e-mail) user and attempted to answer the poll question, you may
have received an error message indicating your cookies are not
enabled on your computer.
To get
around some of these issues with free e-mail accounts, you can
always click on the link at the very top of every e-newsletter
to view the message online. All of the links and any
special code "should" (I always leave myself an out) function
properly in online versions of our e-news.
Anyway, I'm still looking for your
feedback regarding electronic card decks. If you weren't
able to respond to the question last week, please take a few
seconds to respond this week. For all you Yahoo users,
please use the following link to view this issue online and
answer the poll question:
http://www.automation.com/enews/2004-05-12.htm.
Or, you can just go to our
home page and
answer the poll question there. It's located in the far
right column, just below the ads. For all you non-Yahoo
users, here's the poll question again:
| |
Would you be interested in receiving an
electronic card deck filled with industrial automation, process control and
instrumentation products and services? |
| |
Note: After you click "Submit" you
will be directed to our home page where you can view the
responses. The poll question and results are on the far
right below the ads.

Automation Systems Integration - the realm of specialists
Automation systems integrators
serve big markets - but few of them to seem to grow beyond about
$10 million in annual sales. This is because of their inability
to "scale up" in markets that are fragmented, have specialized
requirements and are geographically spread out.
