From One Techie to Another: MCAA - The Forum in Las Vegas |
|
DataNet OPC by BizWareDirect uses Open Connectivity (OPC) technology to communicate live data from industrial devices to a Web page, with no programming required! Data can be viewed from anywhere the Web page is accessible, and dynamic colors allow users to determine the status of plant operations at a glance. DataNet OPC can also log data to a text file for historical purposes. And as usual, we’ve priced this offering so it’s an affordable option. Check it out online or call us at 1-800-633-0405. |

Hello everyone, I'm a little late with the newsletter this week, because I just got back from the MCAA Executive Forum. The MCAA (Measurement, Control and Automation Association at www.measure.org) is an association of manufacturers and distributors of process control and factory automation products. This annual forum gives members an opportunity to share information, discuss trends/challenges, and network with peers. I like to attend these events because it gives me an opportunity to network with industry suppliers in an effort to provide you, our subscribers, with the latest news, products and industry information. The topics covered in the various sessions of the forum included growth opportunities, interactive web training, export compliance, water/wastewater customer panel, marketing challenges, economic overview and web site strategies. This year the Forum was held in Las Vegas. Oddly enough I had never been there before, mainly because I never had a reason to go. Unfortunately, I didn't have much time to really explore the Strip, but I did take a walk through both the Bellagio and the Venitian. It's hard to believe the amount of money that went into building these complexes...money that comes directly from gambling losses. I'm not much of a gambler, but it's easy to see how so many people get drawn in to "feeding the machines", especially when you hear stories about the people who win millions. What you don't hear is how much money those people lost before they won. Sometime, I'd like to go back on a pleasure trip just to see the rest of the city...and try to win back a few of the dollars I lost. See - it's addicting. The newsletter will be a little late next week also because I'll be attending the SPS Electric Automation America Show (www.ea-america.com) in Rosemount, IL. I hope to see some of you there! Enjoy the rest of this e-news! |

Hazardous Area Instrumentation Online Training Course This is the online version of the self paced CD-based training course which covers all aspects of instrumentation and automation systems used in hazardous (classified) locations. Typically facilities in oil & gas, refining, petrochemical and chemical processing have areas which contain explosive or hazardous atmospheres. The instrumentation and automation systems used in these areas must be designed to ensure that they work safely at all times. Engineers working on these systems need to know about hazardous area classification, temperature and material classification, different methods of explosion protection, certification, testing and maintenance. The course contains over 150 pages of rich animation, graphics, photos and images which explain the concepts of Hazardous Area Instrumentation in detail. Techniques for Adaptive Control Techniques for Adaptive Control compiles chapters from a team of expert contributors that allow readers to gain a perspective into a number of different approaches to adaptive control. In order to do this, each contributor provides an overview of a particular product, how it works, and reasons why a user would want it as well as an in depth explanation of their particular method. This is one of the latest technologies to emerge in the instrumentation and control field. These latest control methodologies offer a means to revolutionize plant and process efficiency, response time and profitability by allowing a process to be regulated by a form of rule-based AI, without human intervention. Rather than the common academic-based approach that books on this subject generally take, the contributions here outline practical applications of adaptive control technology allowing for a real look inside the industry and the new technologies available.
