Hannover Fair 2006 and Beyond
This well-known international trade show is just around the corner on April 24 - 28, 2006. This year, I'll finally be able to check Hannover Messe (messe is the German word for fair) off my to-do list. I'm honored and excited to report that I and another colleague have been invited to join the U.S. Press Tour for Hannover Fair 2006. In essence, we will be hosted by the show organizers and able to attend multiple networking opportunities while in Hannover, Germany. I've wanted to attend this show in past years, but with two little ones at home, I wasn't able to commit to the long trip.

Hannover Fair is comprised of ten different exhibitions including INTERKAMA+ (process automation), Factory Automation, Industrial Building Automation, Energy, Pipeline Technology, Subcontracting, Digital Factory, Industrial Facility Management & Services, MicroTechnology, and Research & Technology. For more information about the show we will be posting their relevant news releases in our Automation News Section --> News by Company --> Hannover Messe.

Hannover Fair is truly a global event. Last year, there were more than 6000 exhibitors from 60 countries, filling a display area of 200,000 square meters. This year, Hannover Fair will be presenting India - one of the world's strongest growth markets - as its partner country for 2006. As the partner country, India will offer visitors the perfect opportunity to establish business contacts, strike cooperation agreements and conclude business deals.

Later this year, I plan to attend Automation 2006, an automation exhibition held in Mumbai, India on September 27 - 30, 2006. I've read a lot about the automation activity in India and I'm anxious to witness it first-hand. This show alone is expecting over 500 exhibitors and 50,000 attendees. We are talking with show management about becoming a media sponsor, so we hope to offer our India-based audience more information about this show in the future.

One of our goals in the upcoming years is to expand the Automation.com audience by increasing awareness in other parts of the world. I recently looked at a breakdown of our visitors and subscribers by country, and was very surprised to see how broad our reach is already. Needless to say, I am very excited to be a part of these two upcoming international events. Lookout China, here I come.

Will Industrial Ethernet Render Field Bus Systems Obsolete?
Although it is universally accepted that Industrial Ethernet is transforming automation and process technology, this does not imply that it is the only feasible option, as Martin Müller, marketing manager of the Business Unit 'Automation Systems' of Phoenix Contact, points out.

PROFItech Certification Training Courses
The PROFIBUS Trade Organization (PTO) and the PROFI Interface Center (PIC) announced two new courses as part of the PROFItech Certification Training Course program for 2006. The two new classes added to the program include a PROFIBUS Installer’s Class and a PROFINET Certified Network Engineering Class. This year marks the sixth anniversary of PROFItech certification program and more than 300 attendees have been designated Certified PROFIBUS Network Engineers.

“PROFItech certification training teaches users the appropriate installation, operation and maintenance of PROFIBUS and PROFINET products and networks,” said Carl Henning, deputy director of the PTO. “The industry is moving toward more advanced communication for plantwide operations and PROFItech classes teach users exactly what they need to know about implementing network communication in their facilities.”
