Another Networking Gem
Today, I want to share with you some feedback regarding another great networking opportunity. My business partner, Alan Carty, who heads up automationtechies, our recruiting and contract staffing business, recently attended the CSIA conference and offered the following feedback:
I liked your article last week, ”Networking is Key”. It really hit home with me since I had just returned from my favorite networking event of the year, the Control System Integrators Association (CSIA) Annual Executive Conference. This year’s conference was in Panama City, Florida and was packed with great presentations and plenty of opportunities for the members to network with each other.
Automationtechies/Automation.com is a “Partner Member” of the CSIA. The Partner Membership was designed to allow vendors who do business with controls systems integrators to take part in this organization. Although we partners benefit greatly from having the ability to network with the owners and managers of over 200 system integration companies, the real purpose of the organization is to provide a venue for the control system integrators themselves to network and learn from each other’s individual strengths.
Most of the communication that takes place among the members is informal; however the CSIA has also spawned a few formal alliances and peer groups. For example, the Automation Alliance Group formed when 10 CSIA members in different geographic regions decided to join forces and created a separate entity for marketing their collective capabilities as one “company”. The AAG offers client companies all the advantages that small system integrators offer (responsiveness, ownership, etc.) along with the cumulative resources that rival any large, multi-national engineering firm.
If any of your readers work for or own a control system integration company and are not a member of the CSIA, they should strongly consider visiting their website to learn more about their member benefits. These benefits include access to affordable insurance tailored for their business, access to legal and other business related documents and, of course, the endless networking opportunities with people that do the same job and experience similar business issues.
For your readers involved with the many manufacturers and service providers that sell to control system integrators, check out the list of Partner Members and see which of your competitors have already discovered this networking gem.
Thanks for reading Alan (OK, I know you're obligated) and for your feedback!
If you would like to share YOUR recent networking experiences, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Network-Critical Physical Infrastructure for Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) Systems
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technology helps automate a variety of business processes, improving their efficiencies. It generates a huge volume of data that needs to be filtered, processed and stored, and generally requires its own virtual local area network (VLAN). This paper provides an understanding of an RFID network and its components, identifies critical NCPI locations, and explains how to plan for high availability.
