RSS Feeds Provide New Information ASAP
Have you seen this RSS icon or a similar icon on web sites, but never really known what it was? RSS stands for “Really Simple Syndication”. In other words, RSS allows web sites to make their most recent content (such as news, articles, job opportunities) available publicly in a common XML format to anyone who subscribes. All you need to view content is a news aggregator or RSS reader, which is a program (browser-based or standalone) that displays, manages and checks for updates on a list of feeds. And "ASAP", in this case, stands for “As Soon As Published”. So as soon as the information gets published on a web site, it gets pushed out to subscribers via those RSS feeds.

RSS is a powerful tool for not only online publishers, but also for the users. A number of web site publishers are using RSS feeds to push information out to their audience. The problem is there seems to be a “disconnect” between publishers and users. Most users are not familiar with RSS and are not taking the time to figure out how to use it. The reason for this article is to help you, the user, understand the value of RSS feeds (and how easily they work) so you can take advantage of timely information from multiple sources.

With RSS feeds you can now stay informed without having to manually visit each of your favorite web sites to find the latest news and information. Just look for the RSS icon icon and drag it to your RSS reader’s address bar. The RSS acronym may sometimes be replaced with “XML”, or the icon may be a different color, but the functionality is the same. Many popular news sites, like CNN, are supporting RSS feeds. In actuality, many of the search engines (Google and Yahoo!) and other online news resources are using RSS technology to push information out to users. Consequently, over 50 million users are already on the receiving end of RSS technology and are not aware of it.

Automation.com just implemented RSS feeds associated with our web site content. Now you can get the latest automation news, products, articles and jobs sent to you as soon as they are published on Automation.com.  We have set up unique feeds (listed below) for specific information published on our site. Simply drag the corresponding RSS icon to your news aggregator (RSS reader) or copy the link and paste it in your reader.  A list of popular readers are listed below. To subscribe to each unique feed, you'll need to drag each RSS icon to your reader. Search engines like Google and Yahoo! even allow you to personalize a home page with content of interest. To bring these feeds into your personalized home page, simply click on the corresponding Google or Yahoo! icon below.

There are a number of aggregators available on the Internet, including offerings by Google and Yahoo!. Some are browser-based and others you can download for free or at a minimal cost. For your reference, here is a list of some popular news readers/aggregators.

The Invensys/Foxboro Culture – Took a lickin’ & kept on tickin’

But, after several unwise acquisitions the stock declined drastically and many of the best-performing companies in the group were sold off to stay financially afloat. Here’s a review of how the corporate culture not only survived, but thrived. This is a must-read article for everyone in automation.
