One stop spot for automation information

In case you haven't noticed, we officially released those 24 Product Portals that we've been talking about so much. It was a very subtle change to the main navigation bar on the site, so I wanted to draw your attention to it. Right below the Automation.com logo (on www.automation.com), you will see three new navigation buttons. My Network and Forums will become active as soon as the new networking addition of our site is complete. (We are running a little behind schedule, so please bear with us.)

The Product Portals button will take you to an entry page containing links to all 24 of our portals. Each of these portals hosts new products, company and organizational news, articles and white papers, application stories, resources and literature, training and seminars, and events...all focused on the portal topic. We continually search the Internet and link to other relevant content that may be published on other sites. These portals will take tedious search tasks away from you and free up your time to do what you do best...automate and optimize machines and plants.

To go along with these portals, we are publishing a series of topical e-newsletters which cover the latest developments on the associated portal topic. For more information, please see What is a Product Portal?

As you can see, we already have a lot of content on many of these portals. In the next couple of days, we will be contacting thousands of supplier marketing and PR people and introducing them to these portals as well. Over time, these portals will grow to contain any and all relevant information (from any and all suppliers or industry organizations) on the topic. If you work for a supplier or industry organization and are in a position to contribute content to our site, please Subscribe to our Media Updates.

We also just made some minor modifications to our home page to better orgainize content by type; i.e. products, news, articles, events, etc. Our home page gives you a daily summary of what's new in the automation industry. New product announcements, company news, and other resoures are added to the home page daily so check back often. Or, subscribe to our various RSS feeds and have the latest information (of your choice) delivered to your desktop. We are currently in the process of setting up news feeds for automation suppliers. For example, if you want to stay current with ABB news and product announcements, go to the ABB Page and subscribe to the ABB feed.

Seven years ago we made a commitment to begin publishing this valuable online resource, and today our commitment is stronger than ever. We are the leading automation destination, attracting more visitors than any other automation/control focused web site. So far in March, we've had over 340,000 visitor sessions to our site. Check out our site traffic ranking at Alexa.com. Out of all the millions of sites on the Internet, we rank 168,557 (as of 3/27/2007). We continue to make enhancements and improvements to the site, with the sole purpose of providing you with the information you need to do your job.

If you have any suggestions on how we can improve the site or our e-newsletters, please don't hesitate to contact me.

Up next on our list of enhancements is an improved calendar of events so you can easily see what's going on in the automation industry and when.

Enjoy the rest of this eNews!

The Growing Necessity: Harmonic Mitigation at the Device Level, to Help Keep Facilities’ Power Supply Clean
Harmonics are more of a concern today due to two factors: the extensive use of harmonic-generating equipment; and more of the equipment now being installed in stand-alone machines and processing lines is sensitive to harmonics. Harmonic distortion can result in mis-operation of sensitive electronic equipment and generators.
