High-Speed, Production Line Laser Marking: Maintenance-Free! No Inks!

    Technical Details

The Keyence MD-H9800, air-cooled, YAG Laser Marker has 5 times the laser output power at the target surface compared to conventional air-cooled laser marking systems. With the industry’s deepest focal depth of ±0.28” (±7mm), the MD-H prints clearly and accurately even on irregular or curved metal and plastic surfaces. A double dust-proof structure ensures maintenance-free operation. Air-cooling cuts costs by eliminating the need for water cooling facilities. Dedicated software simplifies setup. Why is networking so important?

And I’m not referring to Ethernet or Fieldbus, although they are just as important. Right now, I’m talking about social and professional networking. Gone are the days of the huge trade shows that attracted tens of thousands of people. Today, all the major suppliers (and some smaller ones) are hosting their own user’s conferences. Suppliers host these events for the obvious reason of attracting a captive audience. But why do users and partners go to these events? It’s for the networking! End users can interact with other end users who share the same manufacturing and process challenges. Of course, there is the business development side of these events as well. Suppliers can tout their products and solutions to users. Systems integrators have opportunities to meet existing and potentially new clients. Partners can reinforce relationships. It’s a win-win for everyone.

The problem of course is getting people to attend these events. There are significant costs associated with attending such events like registration fees, hotel accommodations, and airfare; not to mention the cost of taking time away from the plant. Let’s face it, we are all running lean and we are spread way too thin. We are forced to do more work with fewer people and it’s difficult to take a few days away from the plant to attend these events…no matter how badly we want to go. And the problem isn’t going to get better. So what’s the solution?

Social networking sites like MySpace.com and Facebook.com have been around for a few years; and they have been embraced by the younger generation as the primary means to stay in touch with friends and meet new ones. The staff at Automation.com has officially launched a professional, “automation” version of these social networking sites at My.Automation.com (you can also access it using the “My Automation” navigation button on Automation.com). I realize that for many of you this new type of medium may be a bit foreign and unproven, but it has become the standard to the younger generation for a reason. It works well! Times are changing and so is the way we all function in our jobs.

My.Automation.com is tailored for the automation community. It allows users to create a personal profile that can be as detailed or as sparse as you like. You can even remain anonymous. Any user can create groups, discussion forums, blogs, and events. As with any social site, there is power in numbers. The more active members, the more powerful it becomes. Here are just a few examples of how automation professionals can use the site…

    • Users can create “vendor-specific” or “topic-specific” groups (public or private) and invite colleagues to join those groups.
    • Users can create discussion forums on any topic relevant to automation.
    • Users can request that any other user become a personal “contact” and users can initiate contact with any other user.
    • Users (namely suppliers and associations) can create an event and invite any of their contacts, groups, or all members of the site.
    • Organizations or associations can create groups and invite their colleagues and member to join the site.
    • Industry experts can create blogs and share their thoughts, opinions and comments. Blog at will!

I personally invite all of you to join the site and I urge you to take advantage of its powerful networking features...go to My.Automation.com. I hope to see you online soon!
