Understanding Distributed Processor Systems for Control
By Samuel M. Herb, P.E.
This book addresses the challenges of the process control effort, recognizing that factory automation systems are no longer isolated entities and that the systems and their functions are indeed merging. Discrete, continuous and batch can be performed together or by the same system used in diverse applications. The book is intended for those readers involved in factory automation systems as well as process, including readers who are already experienced and knowledgeable about distributed processor systems, but may not necessarily be exposed to the technologies and issues discussed in industry.
Variable Speed Drives: Principles and Applications for Energy Cost Savings
By David W. Spitzer
Many applications of variable speed drive technology fall in the cracks between traditional engineering disciplines. This new edition of a venerable classic incorporates the additional insights of the author over the past decade and helps practicing engineers learn about the technical and economic potential of this technology. It presents the electrical, hydraulic, chemical, and instrumentation information necessary to technically evaluate and economically justify variable speed drive applications. |

Introduction to Boiler Control Systems
June 10, 2010
When working with boilers, regardless of what process control system is used or fuel being burned, you must control five basic functions: furnace draft, drum level, feed water, fuel air, and steam temperature. This seminar will teach you what must be controlled and how the control systems operate. This seminar will give process control system engineers, managers, project engineers, operators, and technicians in boiler houses and power plants a basic understanding of boiler operation and control.
Introduction to Industrial Automation Security and the ANSI/ISA99 Standards
June 10, 2010
Understanding how to secure factory automation, process control, and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) networks is critical if you want to protect them from viruses, hackers, spies, and saboteurs. This seminar teaches you the basics of the ANSI/ISA99 standards and how these can be applied in the typical factory or plant. In this course, you will be introduced to the terminology, concepts, and models of ANSI/ISA99 CyberSecurity. In addition, the elements of creating a CyberSecurity management system will be explained along with how these should be applied to industrial automation and control systems (IACSs).
Ethernet and TCP/IP on the Plant Floor
June 11, 2010
Ethernet is fast becoming the new standard for industrial control networking worldwide. Using process control concepts, this course explains both Ethernet and TCP/IP as they apply to the plant floor. Included are topics such as the various types of copper and fiber-based Ethernet, how to design Ethernet cabling systems, and principles of network security. Students will also look at the differences between repeaters, bridges, switches, and routers and how to correctly implement them. Real-life examples and case histories will help you understand the truth about Ethernet and TCP/IP and how to effectively use both in your plant.
Industrial Wireless Systems
June 11, 2010
This course will cover the most relevant details associated with industrial wireless systems with an emphasis towards how the various technological choices coexist, interoperate, and interact with each other. Numerous examples of real-world deployments are covered. Considerable emphasis is placed specifically on ISA100 (the standard for industrial wireless) including deep dives into some of the standard’s most pertinent details. Comparisons of ISA100 with other protocols and specifications (e.g., Industrial Bluetooth, ZigBee, Wireless HART) are provided.
