Current Machine Vision Activities in the Food Industry
Machine Vision On Line, May 2007
By Nello Zuech, Contributing Editor
The food industry has a number of opportunities for machine vision and many companies have responded by developing application-specific solutions. This article reviews current trends of some of those solutions addressing applications at the growers, fresh pack and food processors.
Understanding mathematical morphology
Vision Systems Design, May, 2007
By Andrew Wilson
Mathematical morphology is based on mathematical concepts from set theory and uses a number of operators that are useful for edge detection, noise removal, image enhancement, and image segmentation.
Disparity maps give robots depth perception
Vision Systems Design, May, 2007
By Andrew Wilson
One of the most important problems facing developers of robotic-based vision systems is depth perception or the ability to judge an object’s distance from a camera system. Many systems use stereo cameras to provide depth information to a host computer. In turn, this information is used by robotic systems to locate objects in 3-D space.
Machine Vision: Now is the Time
Control Engineering May 1, 2007
By Mark T. Hoske, Editor
Ease of implementation creates a good user experience survey, respondents say. One user wishes he started using machine vision years ago. A full 94% expect to spend as much or more on machine vision in the next 12 months; 52% said they expect to spend more.
Infrared thermography hits the (hot) spot
Plant Engineering, April 2007
By Kevin Campbell, Senior Editor
Infrared thermography has always been a great maintenance tool. New features and capabilities allow manufacturers to do everything from pinpoint hot-spots on the production line to identify leaks in the facility’s roof.
CMOS or CCD for Machine Vision?
Design News, April 30, 2007
By Leonard Metcalfe, Contributing Writer
When selecting an imager, a number of issues should be considered, relating both to the different characteristics of CCD/CMOS devices and the requirements of the application. The technology gap between CCD and CMOS is getting narrower every month. |
