Data Acquisition Moves to the Outside

There continues to be an ongoing trend in data acquisition applications to the use of external devices, especially USB PC front ends instead of plug-in analog I/O boards.

MCAA makes Three-Year Market Forecast
MCAA says the 2006 total market value for twelve PI&A products is $6.7 billion for the United States and $784 million for Canada. In the U.S., annual growth will be 3.6% with 4.2 % in Canada. ARC says Asian DCS Market thrives on massive investments in manufacturing  - 03/15/07

Independent tests prove that the TRUNKGUARD device coupler works seamlessly with a DeltaV control system during repeated short-circuit testing and extreme temperatures. According to Evaluation International, TRUNKGUARD continued to operate and maintain communications with DeltaV after multiple short circuits on spurs, temperatures from -40 to 70°C, and operation at upper and lower voltage limits.

ARC says Foundation Fieldbus Dominates Fieldbus  - 03/02/07
According to a study prepared by the ARC Advisory Group, Foundation fielbus accounts for over two-thirds of process fieldbus revenues. ARC says the global market for fieldbus solutions in the process industries reached $831.7 million in 2006 and projects current growth trends will expand the fieldbus market to over $2.279 billion in 2011.
ARC says Servo Drive Market to reach $3.8 billion by 2010  - 02/27/07
The worldwide market for servo drives is expected to grow at a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 4.6% over the next five years. The market was $3.07 billion in 2005 and is forecasted to be over $3.839 billion in 2010, according to an ARC Advisory Group study.

President of Moore Industries gets Pilot's License at Age 73  - 01/10/07
Leonard Moore passed all the FAA requirements for his pilot's license, and now is certified to fly single-engine land-based aircraft. Mr. Moore has been flying since he was a teenager in Oelwein, Iowa, and soloed for the first time at age 16. Since then, he has continued to fly, but always with instructors or other certified pilots. When he rebuilt an old Ercoupe, he decided to use it to get his license.

Advantech donates products to University of Dayton  - 12/28/06
Advantech has donated three lab setups of ADAM Industrial Ethernet hardware with ADAMView software to the University of Dayton with the aim of cultivating future talent. The products include analog and digital I/O modules, an industrial 10/100Mbps Ethernet Switch, and data acquisition software. The University of Dayton will use this product in three different classes.
ARC says worldwide total process automation market to reach $79 billion  - 12/21/06
Manufacturing companies continue to increase investments in capital expenditures for automation equipment as they recognize the role of automation in the global market. As a result, the worldwide market for total process automation will grow robustly, with ARC expecting a compounded annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.4% over the next five years, to reach nearly $79 billion in 2010.
