Pepperl+Fuchs produces "TechTalk" Podcast
January 28, 2013 - Pepperl+Fuchs introduces TechTalk – a weekly podcast that will help listeners gain insight into modern automation technologies by focusing on AS-Interface (Actuator Sensor Interface) and its associated safety technology, Safety at Work. TechTalk covers topics ranging from hardware selection to installation and maintenance. Each podcast is 5 – 10 minutes long and follows a conversational / interview format.
“Control engineers familiar with AS-Interface will get the latest news on specification enhancements, hear about new products, and familiarize themselves with established and cutting-edge troubleshooting methods, tips, and tricks,” says Helge Hornis, manager of intelligent systems at Pepperl+Fuchs. “Users interested in applying these technologies will learn what it takes to set up an AS-Interface system, how Safety at Work improves safety systems, and why these technologies have the potential to save time and money during all phases of a project. Listeners will like the fact that this is a ‘supplier independent,’ fun, and faced paced learning tool.”

AS-Interface is an open, multi-vendor technology designed to reduce the complexity and associated costs of connecting conventional inputs and outputs, analog transducers, and safety devices to the dominant PLCs on the market. With an installed base of about 24 million field nodes worldwide, AS-Interface is the most trusted low-level and safety networking technology available.
TechTalk is hosted by Pepperl+Fuchs’ Helge Hornis and Tim Cicerchi. Cicerchi is an electrical engineering graduate. While at Pepperl+Fuchs he has been a product manager for AS-Interface, RFID systems, and barcode systems for the past 10 years. He has a strong knowledge in PLC programming, including AllenBradley, Siemens and Beckhoff. Frequent support and on-site startups have allowed him to develop a solid background concerning field installations and troubleshooting. He has been published in a number of trade magazines and is a member of the Ethernet/IP Physical Layer SIG.
Dr. Hornis has a PhD in physics from the Georgia Institute of Technology. For the last 16 years, he has been responsible for Intelligent Systems at Pepperl+Fuchs. In addition, he holds a seat on the board of AS-Interface USA – a user organization focused on the promotion of AS-interface as an open, international networking standard designed for low-level I/O and the interfacing of safety devices. Dr. Hornis has published numerous articles in both peer reviewed scientific publications as well as national and international industrial trade publications and is a frequent contributor to editor written articles on a variety of factory automation topics.
Pepperl+Fuchs is a world leader in the design, manufacture and application of high quality factory and process automation products and services. Pepperl+Fuchs pioneered the development of proximity sensors 50 years ago, and has set the standard for innovation and quality ever since.
