Rebuild or Buy New?

The three principal types of rebuild projects are, from least scope to greatest, an automation upgrade, a recondition/rebuild and repurposing an existing machine. Rebuilding can be an obvious alternative to buying a new machine, particularly if the need to physically replace the old one isnt clear cut.

The less-is-more approach to six-axis robot design

Less is more on high speed scribing machine

Robotix in Rugby, UK, has developed a high speed production line for scribing traceability serial numbers onto wheel rims for earthmoving equipment. This uses a single Hoerbiger-Origa rodless pneumatic cylinder in the dual critical roles of positioning the scribing head and holding the rim steady in the workstation.

Rocky Mountain Wireline Service is an oil and gas perforating and logging company. The data acquisition system we use is rack-mounted in a wireline truck and must withstand vibration and dust generated as the truck moves to different locations over rough roads. These conditions cause problems with industrial PCs. We needed a system that was reliable and easy to repair or replace in the case of failure.

GM Targets Scalable Automation

GM plans to launch a pilot project in an Asia-Pacific plant that relies on a reduced-footprint control system based on Rockwell Automation ControlLogix PACs, for which GM engineers have written scaled-down code based on GMs common software specification, and a Windows CE-based module that resides in one of the ControlLogix controllers.

Lebedyansky, the largest natural juice producer in Eastern Europe, ordered Freeway, a complete end-of-line automation solution, for its production and storage facility in Lebedyan, Russia.
