The less-is-more approach to six-axis robot design
Machine Design, May 2008
By Kenneth Korane
The less-is-more approach centers on designing cable-management systems for six-axis robots — including cables, hose, tubing, carrier, and connectors — in three separate segments. This differs from the current industry practice of using long, single-piece cables and hoses rigidly attached to the end-of-arm tooling.

Machine Vision Guides Van Assembly
Assembly, October 2008
Sistemas Automatizacion Procesos in Barcelona, Spain, built an assembly and inspection cell to process structural subassemblies for a new van assembly line using a vision-guided robot with an In-Sight 5100 camera from Cognex attached to the end of its arm. The inspection camera determines the position of each inspection point and then transmits this information to the robot, which adjusts its movements accordingly.
