Adding Ethernet to Railroad System Increases Reliability By Contemporary Controls
A commuter railroad modernized its 20-year-old automated material handling system in one of its maintenance facilities using PLCs and Ethernet/IP. An Ethernet managed fiber optic switch from Contemporary Controls was part of the solution. Click here to read full article...
Remote Services via Internet Koenig & Bauer, a manufacturer of printing plants, implemented remote maintenance via Internet using open standard technologies in an integrated mGuard solution from Innominate. Click here to read full article...
Sacramento Department of Utilities chooses Magnum 6K25 Switches for Water Treatment Plant The Sacramento River and E.A. Fairbairn Water Treatment
Plants (established in 1964) account for 85 percent of
Sacramentos water supply. The Sacramento River Water
Treatment Plants current intake structure was out of compliance
with current environmental standards. As a part of
the modernization project, CSDU (City of Sacramento Department
of Utilities) chose to update its networking system
as well. In developing the upgrade plan, CSDU wanted
to use state-of-the-art technology that ensured a platform
from which future upgrades could be expected to be integrated
easily. Click here to read full article...
GE Harris uses GarrettCom's Magnum Products for Utility Substation System The Oman Ministry of Electricity and Water
wanted to reduce substation operating costs,
while maximizing the use of existing assets.
Other goals for the program were to improve
substation electrical system performance,
reliability, and security. GE Harris Energy
Control Systems, LLC, Melbourne, Fla., was
asked to create a fully redundant system that
included prefabricated control buildings and
outdoor cabinets that would be easily
connected to existing substation apparatus. Click here to read full article...
Ethernet Products Used in a Rock Quarry TXI saw the benefits of connecting its installed
programmable logic control (PLC) system using
fiber-based Ethernet in its rock quarry at
Bridgeport, Texas. Fiber cabling provided an
interference-free medium for connecting instrumentation
in different areas of the site, and
would speed up accurate communications
among various control stations in the quarry.
However, the system to be installed required
the ability to withstand the wide temperature
range of the North Texas climate, as well as resist
the dirt, dust, and irregular dynamite blasts
at the quarry site. Click here to read full article...
Magnum Industrial Hubs and Switches Network Municipal Wastewater Treatment Plants in Springfield, Missouri The Wastewater Treatment Plants needed to expand
their SCADA systems. Only two buildings on the
nine-building Southwest Plant site had in-building
networks, and none of the buildings were
interlinked. In addition, there was no network link
between the Southwest and Northwest Plants, and
the citys plans called for a more integrated system. Click here to read full article...
Salt River Project (SRP) used GarrettCom's Magnum 6K25 Modular Fiber Switches for Power Utility Substations To meet the growing power needs of metropolitan Phoenix,
SRP is adding generating facilities and transmission
lines that will protect SRP customers from market fluctuations
and power shortages. SRP is also upgrading its nearly
200 existing substations to feature Ethernet in the control
system over a three-year rollout period. Click here to read full article...
Compact Ethernet Switch Helps to Sustain Record or High Reliability in Scribing and Breaking Semiconductor Wafers The semiconductor industry is constantly looking for ways to increase production yields and Loomis Industries in St. Helena, CA, is leading the way with its new LSD-150 Scribe Dicing Machines that use Contemporary Controls' compact Ethernet switches. Ethernet switches for gas field exploitation 150 Westermo Ethernet switches have been installed at Norway's Ormen Lange, one of the world's largest gas fields. The switches were installed in the fibre optics network of the Safety and Automation System. Click here to read full article...
Robotics and the Contemporary Controls PCI20U ARCNET Module Play an Increasing Role in the Surgical Process "Robotics in the field of surgery is no doubt taking us a step forward," says Jayender Jagadeesan, Graduate Research Assistant in the Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada. "With the cooperation of Contemporary Controls, my research group is studying the advantages in using the Mitsubishi PA-10 7C robot in minimal invasive surgery." Click here to read full article...
Robert Redford Green Building & Contemporary Controls Contemporary Controls' Ethernet switch is an integral part that communicates energy and environmental control information, enabling the Robert Redford building in Santa Monica, CA, to receive LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Platinum rating - the highest rating - from the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) for green construction. Contemporary Controls' Skorpion Does the Job for Condition Monitoring System The concept to monitor and detect problematic conditions of machinery is an in-house function in most facilities. Companies are investing in the training of plant personnel plus software and hardware upgrades. Why? Failure in machinery could result in huge production losses with serious environmental and safety implications, not to mention the high costs incurred when unplanned shutdowns arise.
