T Boone Pickens Plan to United States Energy Problems
United States Energy Problems form a Circle & Point Right!

By Bill Lydon - Contributing Editor

"I'm a politician which means I'm a cheat and a liar, and when I'm not kissing babies I'm stealing their lollipops. But it also means I keep my options open."
Jeffrey Pelt, President's National Security Advisor in the movie Hunt for Red October

Unlike politicians, T. Boone Pickens is taking a position with his time, talents, and resources as a United States citizen to help the country.  He is also looking for our help! T. Boone Pickens defines the problem in clear terms.

"IT'S TIME TO STOP AMERICA'S ADDICTION TO FOREIGN OIL"

"America is in a hole and it's getting deeper every day. We import 70% of our oil at a cost of $700 billion a year - four times the annual cost of the Iraq war."

"I've been an oil man all my life, but this is one emergency we can't drill our way out of. But if we create a new renewable energy network, we can break our addiction to foreign oil."

"On January 20, 2009, a new President gets sworn in. If we're organized, we can convince Congress to make major changes towards cleaner, cheaper and domestic energy resources."

As automation professionals, energy is a major resource consumed in our automation systems and control processes.  The United States energy situation has a direct impact on our jobs, families, and national security.

In interviews, T. Boone Pickens has stated that he has taken a politically neutral position to promote the development of an energy plan.

Pickens doesn't feel that either presidential candidate is taking the dependence on foreign oil seriously enough, so he is trying to force the issue with the Pickens Plan and enlisting support of citizens.  According to Pickens we are paying 700 billion dollars per year to other countries and it is hurting our nation.

The Pickens' plan is to use America's natural wind power to offset the lack of natural oil resources. The plan by insiders is well received and, as indicated, Pickens has the money to bankroll the site to promote his plan. In Pickens' words "Neither presidential candidate is talking about solving the oil problem; so we're going to make 'me talk about it."

T. Boone Pickens has a way of getting things done. He is a successful money man and he has proven that he is tough; he plays with the "big boys". He knows his way around politics and he knows his way around media campaigns. His idea sounds worth listening to. He obviously is a dynamic thinker.

Pickens' company, Mesa Power, announced a $2 billion investment as the first step in a multibillion-dollar plan to build the world's largest wind farm in Pampa, Texas. Over the next four years, Pickens plans to build 2,700 wind turbines that would supply 4,000 megawatts.

Strange Bedfellows...the Sierra Club & T. Boone Pickens!
Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope Speaks Out (On the Pickens Plan) in an interview by Eric O’Keefe:

Interviewer: Tell us your thoughts about the Pickens Plan.

Carl Pope: I’ll repeat for you what I said in August at the Democratic National Convention in Denver when Boone and I participated in a panel discussion with John Podesta. At the time, I told the audience, the fact that I am on stage with T. Boone Pickens just goes to show how absolutely dysfunctional our government has been, and I meant it. For decades, our country has lacked an energy plan of any sort, and the consequences have become all too evident.  MORE

Facts & Information, "Did You Know"

…that for more than 35 years, every President has promised to "make the US energy independent," but over that same period, we went from importing 24% of our oil to importing almost 70%?
Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford, Jimmy Carter, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bill Clinton and George W. Bush each meant it when they said it, but because oil was cheap, it was easier to kick the problem down the road.   Over the past year, however, when worldwide demand began to exceed worldwide production, the price of oil has gone up and now has everyone’s attention.    MORE
