Wireless for M2M Industrial Control - I can get to the data, now what? Technologies that enable factory and sensor equipment to connect to the network typically focus on connecting equipment "A" to workstation "B" over network "C". That's all fine and well if, at the end of the day, the data gets used. Given the range, cost and installation issues, Wi-Fi (802.11b) is often the best choice for connecting equipment and sensors to a network. Read entire article... (pdf)
New Standards-based Web-enabled Technologies Streamline Wireless Network to I/O Interface Wireless networks make a lot of sense in monitoring I/O for control systems. Along with the ability to rapidly deploy devices without extensive plant wiring, there are also a number of unexpected benefits. The simplest interfaces to I/O devices are wireless-to-serial bridges. Understand 802.11b standards-based, web-enabled technology and access points. Wireless Networking Solutions for OEMs that require industrial-grade performance with quick time-to-market. Approaches to Designing Embedded Wireless Networks There are a number of approaches to designing wireless networking into embedded systems. The most obvious is to use retail technologies such as PC Cards or USB adapters for low production costs. An alternate approach is to use integrated application specific modules that provide all of the wireless network specific functionality for rapid development. Both of these approaches have their benefits, and a robust design requires balancing development and production needs. Read entire article... (pdf)
