Autonics announces 5-phase stepper motors & drivers
May 22, 2007 - Autonics Corporation announces a wide range of 5-phase stepper motors & drivers. Five-phase stepper motors allow better stability and accuracy, compared to 2 phase & 3 phase stepper motors.

The Max holding torque of the motors is from 0.018Kgf•cm to 200Kgf•cm. Two types of connection types are available. One is standard type with 10 wires, another is pentagon type with 5 wires. 3 different rates of phase currents 0.75A, 1.4A & 2.8A type stepper motors are available with the same torque rating. The motors are available with 24mm, 42mm, 60mm & 85mm square flange. Hollow shaft type & soild shaft types are available in the product range.

Autonics offers both shaft type and hollow type stepper motors. Both sides shaft type also is available as an option. The options available are without gear & brake type, geared type & geared type + brake type. In these the brake & gear will be built in. Geared type assures the maximum torque output. The full step angle for the stepper motor is 0.72degrees. The drivers are available with full step type or with micro step type. In the full step type, full step & half step are possible. In the micro step type, divisions of 1,2,4,5,8,10,16,20,40 & 80 are possible. That means the smallest step available in the micro step is 0.009 degrees. The drivers are also available in the 3 type of current ratings as mentioned above. The drivers are available with 3 types of power ratings. The drivers are available with Bipolar Constant current pentagon driver method. They are 20-40VDC, 100-240VAC, and 100-115VAC. The driver can be controlled by a controller or by a PLC with suitable signal to the driver at suitable time as per the programming sequence.

A stepper motor system is an electro-mechanical rotary actuator that converts electrical pulses into unique shaft rotations. This rotation is directly related to the number of pulses. Stepper motors feature bi-directional control, built-in braking, variable torque, power control, precision accuracy, high resolution, open-loop control, and direct interface to digital systems. Compared to other servo systems, steppers exhibit an excellent power to weight ratio, minimum rotor inertia, no drift, no starting surge, and no cumulative errors. When the coils are sequenced correctly, the motor rotates for- ward. When the sequence is reversed, the motor rotates in reverse. When the sequence is held, the rotor brakes in place.

Typical applications are as follows: Stepper motors are used in automotive gauges, machine tooling automated production equipment and also in retrofit kits stepper motor controllers and motors for CNC machine controls. Chemical mixing and sampling devices utilizing stepper motor controllers and single/multi axis stepper motor controlled environmental testing equipment. Widely used in robotics & in pick/ place machines. Autonics stepper motors & drivers are CE approved.
