| MTS expands R-Series linear position sensors |

CARY, N.C. (June 20, 2007) - MTS Systems Corp., Sensors Division has expanded its family of R-Series linear position sensors by incorporating the latest features of the product line with its flexible housing designed for short installation envelopes with long-stroke sensors. The Temposonics® model RF sensor includes all the outputs, including EtherCAT and SSI, and other enhanced features of the R-Series but is housed in Teflon® coated stainless steel that can be bent to an 8-inch minimum radius and allows for up to 15 to 20 position magnets to be used along a single sensor.
Enhancements to the R-Series flex sensor include higher performance, LEDs, circuit protection, and external programmability, in addition to providing a longer stroke capability and adaptability for hydraulic cylinder applications, said John Balding, Displacement Product Manager, MTS. These features, combined with a flexible sensor that provides proven non-contact and trouble-free performance for very long stroke lengths and linear measurements on an arc increases the versatility in applications of the entire sensor line.
The RF now accommodates strokes up to 10 meters, with a measuring range of 255 mm to 10,060 mm, (consult factory for even longer stroke lengths that are possible).
The RF now includes a pressure pipe option for use in hydraulic cylinder applications. For applications where the sensor needs to be removed or replaced while in use, the pipe can be pre-installed into the cylinder during manufacturing. The sensor can then be installed (or removed) at any time without the need to drain oil from the cylinder.
The sensor is ideal for applications including stamping and forming presses (due to limited installation room under the press), dam gate cylinders (where replacement in the field is difficult), windmills (with a small installation envelope), and multiple-tool position sensing for continuous feed machines such as slitters, large routers and punch presses.
MTS Sensors, a division of MTS Systems Corp., is the global leader in the development and production of magnetostrictive linear-position and liquid-level sensors. Based on MTS patented Temposonics technology, the Sensors Division is continually developing new ways to apply magnetostrictive sensing technology to solve critical applications in a variety of markets worldwide. With facilities in the U.S., Germany and Japan, MTS Sensors Division is an ISO 9001 certified supplier committed to providing innovative sensing solutions that deliver customers with reliable, cost effective sensing devices.
