CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA, JUNE 28, 2007 - GE Fanuc Automation announced the Portable Program Device, a new tool that simplifies the storing of a controller's application without a PC.

The Portable Program Device enables the user to easily upload and download controller configuration and logic to/from any USB Memory Stick using USB connection. The purpose of the PPD is to allow users to store their logic application and configuration to GE Fanuc controllers without the need of a PC. It connects directly to the communications port on the controller and can be panel mounted or hand held.

“The PPD is a simple device to operate,” said Bill Black, GE Fanuc Product Manager for Controllers. “By enabling the download of programs on to a memory stick, the user can easily email the application program to users in any part of the world or simply drop the memory stick in the mail, saving time, money and downtime. The PPD does not require any controller software on the PC, and is also ideal for OEMs that are looking for cost effective tools for supporting their customers.”

The Portable Program Device, durable enough for all industrial applications, is a great alternative to sending hardware via the mail and trying to work through problems on the phone or bringing in expensive technicians for fixes.

“The Portable Program Device is unique in the industry today, it is a simple, low cost solution that eliminates costly hardware and training,” continued Black. “Another key feature of the PPD is the ability to log the faults to the memory stick. This allows the user to easily email the data to the programmer for quick resolution of the problem.”

The Portable Program Device is available now.
