Rexroth introduces Flying Shear system for metal forming
July 16, 2007 - Hoffman Estates, IL – Bosch Rexroth’s Flying Shear solution, part of the IndraMotion for Metal Forming system, is a pre-engineered, IndraDrive-based solution for standard applications requiring only simple configuration setup, saving integration, setup and operation time. The Flying Shear solution offers a particularly economical and scalable choice for processors of sheet metal, plastic, paper, or wood.

All required system parameter setup and machine setup is made via simple menus provided by the VCP08 HMI operator display unit. With the Ethernet option installed in the IndraDrive (cross-communication option, CCD), the VCP08 and engineering PC can be connected via Ethernet. In addition, the SERCOS III Ethernet-based real-time communication allows for connection of additional drives and I/O for minimized installation cost.

The IndraDrive can operate servo and direct drive (linear and torque) motors in a wide range of power and torque/force for shortest cut cycle cutting times. Cutting precision is assured by using either a measuring wheel, registration probe or encoder signal of a puller axis.

The Flying Shear solution can be extended by the OEM or integrator with the Metal Forming and IndraDrive function libraries, which offer a range of motion and control functions. Additionally, the large library of IndraLogic functions and PLCopen motion commands combined with the technology functions of the IndraDrive reduce engineering time for creating effective flying shear control solutions. Project management, startup, and re-use of engineering are easy with uniform IndraWorks engineering, saving valuable time during the machine design and setup phase.

The IndraMotion for Metal Forming allows the customer to utilize the Rexroth’s IndraDrive uniform power and controller sections (to 160kW) with basic or advanced performance. IndraDrive is available with EN954-1 Category 3 compliant drive with Safety on Board technology, and a choice of Starting Lockout (L1) and integrated safe motion (S1) is available. The IndraDrive can operate Rexroth IndraDyn induction, permanent magnet, rotary, or linear motors using standard position feedback systems.

Bosch Rexroth AG, part of the Bosch Group, achieved sales of approximately $6.2 billion (4.9 billion Euro) in 2006 with over 29,800 employees. Under the brand name of Rexroth the company offers all drive and control technologies, from mechanics, hydraulics and pneumatics to electronics and associated service. Over 500,000 customers worldwide utilize Rexroth’s unique technological know-how to implement their innovative and future-oriented systems and machine concepts. The global player, represented in over 80 countries, is an extensive supplier of components and systems for industrial and factory automation and mobile applications.
