Pleasanton, Calif. – August 22, 2007 – Transpara Corporation sponsored the July 2007 Aberdeen report, titled “Manufacturing IQ: Taking Manufacturing Intelligence to the Enterprise.” The benchmark report finds that best-in-class customers implement Enterprise Manufacturing Intelligence (EMI) solutions across the organization and supply chain network to deliver automated alerts, real-time visibility, and contextualization of plant floor data to drive operational intelligence. Transpara’s EMI solution, web-based Visual KPI software, provides customers in the manufacturing and utility sectors with on-demand, role-based operations data on any mobile device or desktop.

Based on the findings of the report, Bharat Nair, SVP and Research Director with Aberdeen’s Global Manufacturing Practice, offers the following recommendations for action:
  • Implement EMI to integrate plant floor data from disparate sources with business content to provide operational intelligence;
  • Drive EMI initiatives under the sponsorship of plant floor management responsible for operational performance;
  • Implement role-based dashboards throughout the plant floor;
  • Adopt remote access capabilities to provide visibility of critical data and to send alerts to key decision makers.

    “While providing visibility to data is essential in a complex global manufacturing environment, putting this data into operational and business context and leveraging this intelligence to drive actions in real-time is what delivers competitive advantage to manufacturing enterprises,” said Nair. “With Visual KPI, Transpara is transforming performance management, delivering real-time, role-based data to any mobile device, including cell phones, with minimal training or new technology adoption required from personnel in the field. Visual KPI is an EMI solution that leverages existing technology investments to deliver fast ROI to the enterprise.”

    Also included in the report is a case study detailing how KeySpan Energy, New York’s largest electric generator, uses Transpara’s EMI solution, Visual KPI. “With our EMI implementation leveraging cell phones to deliver key KPIs any time, all the time, our technicians and supervisors are able to get real-time information they need to do their jobs no matter where they are in the field,” said John Ragone, Plant Process Optimization Manager, Electric Production Department at KeySpan Energy. “This results in significant cost savings by ensuring peak asset performance, savings from lost generation costs, and energy replacement costs.”

    More than 200 manufacturers participated in the study, including: Ashok Leyland, Baxter Healthcare, British Telecommunications, Cisco Systems, Ford Motor Company, General Dynamics, Panasonic Industrial, Co, Lockheed Martin, Motorola, Nokia, Nestle, Philips Lighting, New Balance Athletic Shoe, Inc, Unilever SA and Volvo.
