Rockwell Automation introduces MP-Series Linear Stages
MILWAUKEE, Sept. 4, 2007 - Rockwell Automation is introducing a new line of linear stages for a wide range of load-carrying applications, offering machine builders substantial time and cost savings associated with design, programming and commissioning. The Allen-Bradley MP-Series Integrated Linear Stages use Rockwell Automation programming tools familiar to most OEMs and machine builders, and provide seamless integration with other parts of the control system.

Linear stages – the mechanisms that support loads and provide linear actuation – are critical for successful movement of linear functions on a range of machines. “Machine builders who build their own linear stages frequently spend a great deal of time and money purchasing, assembling, programming and troubleshooting multiple components from different suppliers,” said Mike Woelfel, Kinetix Linear Motion Product Marketing Manager, Rockwell Automation. “And the situation becomes even more complicated when direct drive linear motor technology is applied, since mechanical and electrical integration require the additional considerations for linear feedback devices and forces due to magnetic attraction.”

Because the MP-Series Integrated Linear Stages are available in both ballscrew and direct drive linear motor versions, machine designers can now choose a linear stage based purely on desired performance and not worry about the internal technology. These new, off-the-shelf stages reduce the added cost and complexity for the OEM, and offer an improved level of performance and ease of use for the end user.

By using Rockwell Software RSLogix 5000 programming software and Allen-Bradley Motion Analyzer servo system selection and optimization software, OEMs can specify load and motion profile parameters to select the appropriate linear stage, and then quickly configure the motion control system to run the stage. The MP-Series Integrated Linear Stages are also available in various force levels, multiple frame sizes, stroke lengths of up to two meters, and linear velocities of up to five meters per second.

Additional features that make the MP-Series Integrated Linear Stage an excellent alternative to other off-the-shelf and custom linear stage devices include:
  • Rugged industrial design with IP30 environment protection rating, minimizing the potential for contamination and connector breakage, and improving uptime goals
  • Seamless integration with the Rockwell Automation Integrated Architecture, delivering compatibility with Allen-Bradley controllers, interfaces and software, and improving commissioning time objectives
  • An exterior cable track that is easy to replace without device disassembly, minimizing downtime for replacement in harsh automation environments
  • Operation without home and over-travel switches, improving reliability and reducing the need for additional wiring and programming time

The MP-Series Integrated Linear Stages are available globally now.
