Schneider releases S-Flex enclosed drive for HVAC
PALATINE, Ill. — September 12, 2007 — Schneider Electric introduces the Square D brand S-Flex enclosed drive controller, the most effective solution for commercial pump and fan applications, and the latest addition to the Flex family. The S-Flex enclosed drive controller was designed with input from HVAC consultants and contractors to save time, money and space.

“The S-Flex enclosed drive controller includes the most common requirements for HVAC pump and fan applications in commercial facilities and offers the essentials for building owners, consulting engineers and contractors, allowing them to save time and money,” said Harvey Eure, product manager, enclosed drives, Schneider Electric North American Operating Division. “These factors, when combined with the slender design of the S-Flex enclosed drive controller, makes it one of the most effective solutions on the market.”

Since specifying drives can be time-consuming, the S-Flex enclosed drive controller benefits from qualities that make the process easier, such as simple start-up, including preprogrammed parameters, and quick installation with EZ-M mounting. The product also has easy wiring conduit knock-outs on the enclosure and a dedicated wiring terminal block. The Microsoft Windows-based PCSoft software allows users to adjust parameters; store and transfer drive configuration files; monitor driver performance, including historical data; and configure, adjust and control remotely.

The S-Flex enclosed drive controller also offers industry-leading harmonic reduction technology that eliminates the need for line reactors and DC chokes. This results in higher equipment efficiency, reduced equipment costs, fewer points of electrical failure, a smaller enclosure size and a lighter weight product.

“Users also will benefit from the energy economizing motor algorithm of the S-Flex enclosed drive controller that maximizes energy savings and reduces electricity usage,” Eure said. “In addition, an internal PID regulator allows flow rates to be adjusted for actual needs without additional hardware.”

The minimal space requirements of the S-Flex enclosed drive controller allow for side-by-side wall mounting and retrofitting of HVAC systems in existing mechanical rooms.

The S-Flex is part of the Flex family, which also includes the Square D brand E-Flex, M-Flex and PowerGard 18-Pulse enclosed drive controllers. This latest addition is ideal for use in residential high-rise and mixed-use buildings, commercial office buildings, schools and campus environments. The product is available in two horsepower ranges, from 1 to 40 HP at 208V and from 1 to 100 HP at 460V.

Headquartered in Palatine, Ill., the North American Operating Division of Schneider Electric had sales of $3.7 billion (U.S.) in 2006. The North American Operating Division is one of four operating divisions of Schneider Electric, headquartered in Paris, France, and markets the Square D, Telemecanique and Merlin Gerin brand products to customers in the United States, Canada and Mexico. In the United States, Schneider Electric is best known by its flagship Square D brand, with Telemecanique becoming increasingly known in the industrial control and automation markets and supported by many Square D distributors. For more than 100 years, Square D has been a market-leading brand of electrical distribution and industrial control products, systems and services. Schneider Electric is a global electrical industry leader with 2006 sales of approximately $17.2 billion (U.S.).
