InduSoft releases Secure Web Client

Austin, TX – November 1, 2007 - InduSoft Secure Viewer enables secure access to InduSoft Web Studio HMI/SCADA application screens using PCs, handheld PDAs, and tablet PCs over wired or wireless connections. Web communications to remote locations over unsecured networks can be encrypted using SSL (Secure Socket Socket Layer, RC6 Standard 128-bit encryption technology), providing the highest possible level of security.

Two types of browsers are now supported: a dedicated browser for plant-floor operations—where navigation must be restricted to application screens—and a Microsoft Internet Explorer-based browser that enables full access to any authorized IP address. Up to 128 Web Clients of each type are supported.

“The automation industry is increasingly using Web Thin Clients as a means of remotely monitoring and controlling machine operations or processes,” says Marcia Gadbois, vice president of business development at InduSoft. “Use of Web Clients provides improved visibility into manufacturing operations and a low-cost means for production data access. Competitive Web solutions typically support a limited number of Web clients, require Terminal Services, or display only static Web pages, relying on users to refresh the screen manually. Our new Web Client solution offers unparalleled performance and a highly scalable interface.”

The InduSoft Web Client Solution has a built-in Data Server that uses a sophisticated Data Push technology to automatically update Web Client screens in real-time as new data is acquired. The Web Client can be configured to monitor machine or process operation, or to initiate commands by any authorized user from any authorized station—locally and remotely. In the case of a hardware failure, the browser can automatically switch over to a secondary server.

InduSoft’s Web Client includes:

Dedicated Browser: Plant floor devices such as HMIs, Industrial PCs, and PDAs can all be restricted to specified HMI/SCADA applications. This prevents operators from unauthorized access to other applications or system controls. This Dedicated Browser runs on all supported Windows operating systems including Windows CE, Windows XP, and Vista devices. PCs, industrial computers, and handheld PDAs, either wired or wireless are all supported.

Redundant Web and Data Servers with Automatic Failover: For high-availability applications, the InduSoft Web Client Solution supports redundant Web Servers and Data Servers. If the primary Web or Data Server becomes unavailable because of network or hardware failure, the Web Client can automatically transition to a secondary Server without any operator intervention.

Secure Communications: The InduSoft Web Client solution provides integrated Web Tunneling support, allowing the built-in Data Server to work with the Web Server (Microsoft IIS, for example) to provide highly secure, encrypted communications between the Server and one or more Web Clients. This level of encryption is often used when communications over the Internet or other unsecured networks is required. A built-in Embedded Firewall that prevents unauthorized access to data from unknown IP addresses is also included.

Support for a Large Number of Web Clients:The data push technology employed by the integrated Data Server is a very efficient method of supporting a large number of Web Clients. This approach results in a reduced impact on CPU Memory and computational resources compared to other Web Client solutions in the industry. The InduSoft Web Studio Web Client solution operates so efficiently, up to 128 Dedicated Browsers and 128 Internet Explorer-based browsers can be supported simultaneously.
