ifm efector introduces Valvis valve position sensor
November 7, 2007 - EXTON, PA – ifm efector introduced a new line of sensors that continuously indicate the position of linear valves. The efector Valvis sensor is installed on top of a linear valve to reliably detect the stroke position up to 80 mm. The sensor monitors single-seat and double-seat valves providing a condition-based monitoring solution. On double-seat valves, the sensor detects the open position, closed position and seat-lift cleaning position. On single-seat valves, the sensor detects the open position, closed position and provides an additional output for seal contact wear.

The efector Valvis sensor features a pushbutton setup to establish setpoints and an integrated LED display to indicate operating status. The sensor’s principle of operation is based on ifm‘s multiplexed sensing technology. The sensor incorporates 16 individual air coils that are positioned closely together to create a linear inductive sensing field. Each coil is connected to the microprocessor-controlled electronics. As a valve stem enters into the sensing field, the coils detect the valve stem at a resolution of 0.2mm. The resulting signal of the stem is then compared with the teach-in switch points.

As a predictive maintenance tool, efector Valvis can monitor seal wear and seal parameters. When the sensor detects changes in the condition, it sends an alarm signal to a PLC which eliminates cycle-based maintenance.

Ifm efector Valvis sensors are available in two models: a 3-wire Micro DC version with analog output and a 5-wire Micro DC version with three switching outputs. Both units are priced at $232.00 (US).

ifm efector inc. is a premier technology partner for sensors and controls. Products include proximity switches, photoelectric sensors, fiber optics, condition monitors, speed monitors, pressure sensors, flow sensors, temperature sensors, level sensors, valve position sensors, mobile control solutions, ID systems, AS-i networking and Safety at Work products.
