“All-in-one” Ethernet controller features 5.7-inch display, flexible connectivity options and Windows CE
MINNEAPOLIS, December 11, 2007 – With the new CP6608 Ethernet Control Panel with 5.7-inch display, Beckhoff Automation has introduced its smallest Control Panel yet. The space-saving CP6608 features an integrated PC with Intel IXP420 processor and several commonly-used interfaces, making it ideal for industrial applications as well as building automation.
The cabinet mounted CP6608 comes equipped with two Ethernet ports with 10/100BASE-T, two fast USB 2.0 ports and a serial RS232 port as external interfaces. With the CP6608 and its 5.7-inch display (available with a touch screen option), Beckhoff has expanded the company’s established Control Panel family with a more compact version. The user now has a choice among versions with 5.7-, 6.5-, 12-, 15- or 19-inch displays. The centerpiece of the CP6608 is a Beckhoff Motherboard with a 266 MHz Intel IXP420 processor with XScale technology. The CP6608 has 32 MB of flash memory on-board and 128 MB of on-board RAM included as standard. Windows CE is used as the panel’s operating system.
The rugged CP6608 has an aluminum front and offers IP 65 protection class at the front and IP 20 at the rear. In addition to the standard grey color, the front laminate is available in any standard RAL color, providing numerous styles for customization.
A free Mini PCI slot offers additional flexibility. Beckhoff fieldbus cards are available for PROFIBUS, CANopen, DeviceNet and SERCOS interface, as well as a third Ethernet port and an additional serial interface. Alternatively, the Mini PCI slot can be used to install a memory card with NOVRAM for fail-safe data storage. The user can choose from cards with 128, 256 or 512 kB NOVRAM.
Optimum application and design flexibility
The CP6608 Ethernet Control Panel can be operated as a stand-alone PC or as a terminal client of a Microsoft Windows terminal server. In conjunction with Beckhoff’s TwinCAT automation software, the CP6608 becomes a very compact, “all-in-one” controller and display for machine construction and system engineering applications. At the same time, it is equally ideal for building or room control applications in industrial or residential buildings, hotels, and offices.
