Omron releases D6F-P MEMS Dust Resistant Flow Sensors
December 17, 2007 - Schaumburg, IL USA - Omron Electronic Components LLC announces the release of the D6F-P MEMS flow sensor that incorporates a unique double cyclone patented Dust Segregation System (DSS) that delivers accurate results in “real world” dusty environment applications including HVAC/VAV (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning/Variable Air Volume) by keeping particulate away from the sensing chip. The MEMS flow sensor delivers an amplified, temperature compensated output signal with high accuracy and repeatability, even at very low flow rates. This accuracy is critical in sophisticated zone temperature control systems where a proper intake of fresh air is required to avoid a “sick building” situation.

The compact 17 x 22mm footprint and PCB terminals allow for direct connection to the board of damper control modules. By design the D6F-P is consistent from lot-to-lot and does not require re-calibration, and having both orifices on the same side facilitates connection without kinking the tubes. Other specifications are +1.0 SLM, a pressure range of 0.84” H2O, maximum pressure is 50kPa (200” H2O) with an analog output signal of 0.5 to 2.5VDC (0 to 0.5 negative flow indication).

Before now MEMS flow sensor technology has not been widely used. Although they offer many advantages over differential pressure sensors, their cost in the past was too high to justify their purchase. The D6F-P is not only cost competitive but delivers many additional features. Applications include the HVAC/VAV market, damper control, vent hoods, clogged filter detection, medical equipment, respirators & ventilators, Spirometers, CPAP devices, analytical equipment, environmental analyzers & gas chromatograph.

“When compared to differential pressure sensors the D6F-P is easier to use, delivers more accurate readings, operates in dusty environments and now they are cost competitive as well,” said Cami Marsh, Omron Electronic Components LLC.

MSRP for the D6F-P is around $47 each in quantities of 100 pieces. Delivery is 10-12 weeks.
