Hoffman introduces Type 4X painted stainless steel enclosure
Anoka, MN - March 17, 2008 - Hoffman introduces the Type 4X Stainless Steel Wall-Mount Enclosure painted with a white polyester powder finish inside and out to reduce solar radiation absorption and keep internal components cooler. Its rugged stainless steel construction provides industry-leading protection for housing electrical components and controls in outdoor and corrosive environments, while the white polyester finish delivers excellent thermal management at a lower cost.

Hoffman’s Painted Type 4X Stainless Steel Wall-Mount Enclosure offers the same durability of the company’s standard 14-gauge Type 304 stainless steel offerings, and its white finish ensures the internal enclosure temperature is up to 10 degrees lower than that of a traditional stainless steel enclosure in identical environments. This single-door enclosure features continuously welded, ground smooth seams, with no holes or knockouts, and its data pocket is constructed of high-impact thermoplastic. The enclosure additionally offers Hoffman’s exclusive Type 316L stainless steel small POWERGLIDE Padlocking Handle with internal 3-point latching. This combination ensures the enclosure is secure and water-tight while allowing easy access to internal components.

“We developed this product offering to meet customer requests for a cost-effective stainless steel enclosure for challenging outdoor or corrosive applications,” said Toni Amenrud, Hoffman vertical market manager. “White painted stainless steel significantly reduces solar heat load in direct sunlight without involving additional thermal management.” Amenrud adds, “The Painted Type 4X Stainless Steel Wall-Mount Enclosure is part of our standard product line to deliver the short lead times our customers require in a convenient, cost-saving package.”

The enclosure’s Type 4 gasket assures a water- and dust-tight seal, and its 90-degree flange top collar on the top of the body opening keeps out harmful liquids and contaminants. Plus, the new Painted Type 4X Stainless Steel Wall-Mount Enclosure meets the following industry standards: Underwriters Laboratories (UL) 508A, UL508; UL Type 3R, 4, 4X and 12; National Electrical Manufacturers Association (NEMA)/EEMAC Type 3R, 4, 4X, 12 and 13; and Canadian Standards Association (CSA) C22.2 No. 94 Type 4, 4X and 12. Standard sizes are offered from stock for quick delivery, and numerous Modification Services options are also available.

Applications. The Painted Type 4X Stainless Steel Wall-Mount Enclosure is an ideal solution for housing electrical components and controls in outdoor and corrosive environments, including:
  • Petrochemical plants
  • Pulp and paper processing operations
  • Packaging applications
  • Water treatment facilities
  • Food processing
  • Pharmaceutical applications

In addition, several features of the Painted Type 4X Stainless Steel Wall-Mount Enclosure make it particularly effective and convenient to use:
  • Durable white polyester powder finish reduces solar radiation absorption, keeping internal components cooler than traditional steel enclosures
  • Robust 14-gauge Type 304 stainless steel construction
  • Reliable continuously welded and ground smooth seams - no holes or weld buildup
  • Effective Type 4 gasket assures both a water- and dust-tight seal
  • 90-degree flange trough collar on the top of the body opening protects internal components from liquids and contaminants
  • Security, and ease of access and closure provided by electropolished Type 316L stainless steel padlocking POWERGLIDE Handle with internal 3-point latching
  • Removable door provides easy access to internal components - door is simply removed by pulling the stainless steel hinge pin
  • Provides document storage with a high-impact thermoplastic data pocket
  • Features internal collar studs for mounting optional panels, including white painted mild steel panels and unpainted conductive panels
  • Stocked standard sizes provide short delivery times
  • Modification Services available
