Manufacturing Hall of Fame inductee Dick Morley will deliver the first keynote presentation entitled "Black Holes, Chocolate, and Nano," on Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. Morley is known to many as the father of the programmable logic controller (PLC) and is a visionary in advanced technological developments. As an inventor, machinist, author, consultant, and engineer, his peers have acknowledged his contributions with numerous awards from groups such as Inc. magazine, the Franklin Institute, the Society of Manufacturing Engineers and the Engineering Society of Detroit. He has also been inducted into the Manufacturing Hall of Fame.
During Thursday's Awards Banquet, Dr. John R. Bratten, Nautical Archaeologist and Conservator at the University of West Florida, will present "Emanuel Point Ship II: Investigation of Newly Discovered Spanish Shipwreck in Pensacola, FL." A graduate of the Nautical Archaeology Program at Texas A&M University, Dr. Bratten has extensive experience in the analysis and conservation of artifacts from diverse sources including those from the sunken 17th-century town of Port Royal, Jamaica, to Revolutionary War munitions recovered from Lake Champlain.
Between 1994 and 1998, he served in the dual role of conservator and archaeologist for the earliest shipwreck discovered in Florida, the Emanuel Point Ship.
