This training program will provide guidance on how to keep workers safe while working on or around electrically energized equipment. It will also provide preliminary guidance on how to comply with OSHA and NFPA 70E® safety standards.

Why Should You Attend:
The OSHA standard for The Control of Hazardous Energy (lockout/tagout), Title 29 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 1910.147 addresses the practices and procedures necessary to disable machinery or equipment that would prevent the release of hazardous energy while employees perform servicing and maintenance activities.
This course will provide an overview of these requirements so that an employer can understand their responsibility to protect employees from hazardous energy sources on machines and equipment during service and maintenance. Hazardous energy sources include electrical, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, chemical, thermal or other sources in equipment that can be hazardous to workers. During the servicing and maintenance of equipment, the unexpected startup or release of stored energy could cause injury to employees.

Michael Prater has 22+ years of experience in the environmental and safety industry. A regulatory compliance and training specialist, his prior employment history includes EHS leadership positions with defense industry Fortune 500 companies Northrop Grumman and Litton. He has also worked in the environmental industry for Waste Management and Safety Kleen. Mr. Prater holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from West Georgia College and a Master of Science in Environmental Management from the University of Maryland UC. Mr. Prater has also obtained multiple environmental and safety professional certifications.

Lockout/ Tagout Requirements
Lockout devices—such as circuit breakers, slide gates, line valves and disconnect switches—ensure that an energy isolating device cannot be used until the lockout device is removed. A lockout device uses a constructive means, such as a key or combination lock, to hold an energy-isolating device in a safe position to prevent energization.
Tagout devices, such as tags or other prominent warning devices, show that an energy-isolating device and its equipment must not be used until the tagout device is removed.
